00 Well, how come Asian families think mental disorders are a myth? >> Cuz I think it's just called being a ████ >> [laughter] >> At least how Asian families think about it. >> Okay, okay. >> I feel like like was it Ronnie Cheng who said this? Who said that like all the symptoms of autism when you put them in an Asian, that's how they do well. >> Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. >> their superpowers. Like it actually helps them excel. >> "Autistic? Oh, you mean autistic?" >> Yeah, like no emotions, good at math. You mean [snorts] oh, just successful? Like that's what autism is. >> Focus. >> Yeah, it's like it's like that meme that was going around, Chinese are autistic. >> All of them? [laughter] >> Really? >> It's so simple. >> like >> It's like it's the whole meme. >> Yeah, like like it's like it's like they have that for Germans, too. It's like it's like German or autistic, and then
50 they give you traits, and then you're like >> Oh, yeah. >> So, they have that for Chinese. And I don't know if like regular American families do this, um but you know, like you >> I feel like in Asian households, if you ever complain about something, they always just compare it to how they have it. >> They're like, "Oh, I don't want to whatever." Oh, you think I wanted to do whatever? And then it's already like, "All right, I mean, I lost this conversation." >> I honestly I also think that this generation, we just like our generation, like what the ████ are we going to say? It's like, "Oh, I got mental It's like, dude, did you escape from war? Like >> Yeah. >> really? >> Right. >> You need a ████ mental health day? I I really genuinely believe that that's like a part of the internal dialogue. >> Sure, yeah. >> That's how my grandpa was. >> Oh, yeah? >> Yeah. Like you don't have it tough. We walked 15 miles in the snow like >> Yeah. >> Do your parents believe in mental health
40 or no? >> Um my parents don't believe in psychology. >> [clears throat] >> Like Like the whole thing? >> Yeah, pretty much. Like they just like you you can tough it out. You You got this. >> They would my dad. >> Yeah. >> He just thinks it's like made up ████ >> Specification ████ >> Get you in the easy class. Then my would be like, "I think I'm depressed." I'll fix. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Pretty much. >> Something you just like blow on the ████ cartridge, you know, like okay, cool, it's done. >> It's also like hard because even the worst times in America are still better than the default times in the Philippines that my parents had. So, even like there there's it's a very hard place to be like, "Oh, we have it so hard right now." Like even the ████ s████████ times you've had are way better. >> I know, my my grandparents went through the Great Depression and >> Yeah. >> you always had to hear about that. It's like, "Oh, you're not going to finish
30 your food? Well, guess what? We didn't get we didn't have food." It's like, [snorts] "Oh, f███." >> Like imagine telling someone from the Great Depression that you have depression. >> Can't. >> [laughter] >> They'd be like, "Are you ████ serious?" >> Dude, the sickest ████ though is my grandma used to cook with way too much onions all the time and my mom even was like, "This is crazy amount of onions." >> She loves onions? >> Love putting onions on all over everything. >> onions, too, though. >> And so, my mom eventually she felt bad for us cuz we always had to finish our plates and there was a couple of times where my grandma went so ham on the onions that my mom's like, "Bring it over here, Steven." And then she's like, "We have to we have to put the plate upside down in the trash can." So, like then grandma doesn't know. >> Why did she like onions so much? >> She just loved onions. >> Oh, she that's her ████ >> Well, for her it's like putting spice in something. >> onions, too. >> Putting flavor. >> But do you love so much onions going with peas and carrots and ████ It's like >> That's crazy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
20 >> Maybe she really liked onions during the Great Depression. That was the thing that they couldn't get. >> never know. You You don't know where the trauma's coming from. >> Is she still alive? >> No. No. She died. Thanks for bringing that up, by the way. Thanks a lot. >> Yeah, I was just wondering. >> No, she died. >> But you know what's funny though is I honestly think it helped me out a lot that my parents didn't believe in that ████ >> Yeah. >> Because it would never made it real to me. So, I never had that problem. But you know, like even if I did feel that way at one point in my life, they didn't coddle me to go, "Oh, tell us what it is. Let's figure it out." They were just like, "Stop." And I was like, "Okay." >> ████ >> All right. >> Do you, right? >> And now >> like I'm I'm honestly like I feel like I'm depression proof. >> Mhm. >> It's my more logical minded now as a reflex. Like if something feels off, I'm more of like, okay, how do I solve that for myself versus like like how do I feel better? Like it's more of like >> I'm not depression proof. I'll use it to my advantage though. I'll be like, huh?
11 If I say I'm kind of depressed right now, people are nicer to me. >> You get ████ >> Well, yeah, don't make it too direct. >> Yeah, cuz sometimes when you put a magnifying glass on something, it makes it like way worse. >> It's like navel-gazing. >> Yeah, yeah, like like in in Tyco Soccer, you know, they'll they'll run into each other and then most of the kids they'll collide and then they might cry cuz it hurts or whatever and then the dad's like, you're okay. The kid just gets up and just starts going whatever, right? But then it's when you're like go coddle him, oh my god, was that a crazy whatever, they're like, oh yeah, I'm so bad. And it was like almost like if you just >> Yeah, dude, no. >> doing what you got to do, then you kind of like get over it faster. >> And if your parents learn to or at least if your friends or anyone around you teaches you to have a dark sense of humor about your own disasters, >> Yeah. >> that to me is the ████ main superpower. >> Sup- Yeah, you have to have a sense of
02 humor and you got to be able to like self-deprecate well. >> To laugh at your misfortunes is the ████ fastest healing you could possibly have. Yeah. >> That's the key to probably not having depression. >> It probably is, yeah. >> Calling yourself >> so like tragically hilarious that you can't help but be like, holy ████ >> Cuz the variables don't change that drastically in a generation. Everybody has their version of the experience. Like all depression is like merited. Whatever you're going through, no matter how big or small compared to me, merited. If that's the biggest thing you've ever gone through, sure. But at the same time, it's like since we all go through, it's like you could choose how you want to enjoy your life is all, you know? >> There's a way to So like, for example, my grandparents went through the Great Depression. So there's a way that they dealt with that trauma and it was by hoarding food. And so I went into their freezer one time, Me and my mom were out there and we were looking through it and we found a lobster from like 1983.
52 >> Oh god, dude. Yeah. >> Frozen lobster. And it's just like >> like a deep freezer? >> Yeah, deep deep one of those like you have to open up and reach in. >> Downward ones. hoarding got passed on. >> Oh, 100% but that's what I'm saying. So like the trauma is almost generationally passed on in that same way because they raised their kids to be that way. >> Yeah, totally. >> But there are there are elements to it where it's so pretty ████ ████ where like my grandma had Alzheimer's and dementia. And then because they don't really understand mental health, I'm trying to explain to my mom like what it is. And then she keeps trying to get my grandma to remember. So it's kind of a sad sight cuz they just can't accept like she's sick. She's sick in the head. This is what happens. >> Yeah. >> But because if if they don't believe in mental health then then they just No, she'll remember. I know she will. I was talking to her last week. And I'm like >> Oh. >> ████ >> It's cope.
42 >> Right. >> But that's cuz she does also don't don't she doesn't she refuses to understand. >> Well, they kind of do for I mean >> They they can pop back in real quick and then you have a conversation then it really just kind of validates that person's understanding like nah, I don't think a lot of them mental health. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, but it's ████ cuz I'm like Yo, science is progressing. There's certain things that we're learning about this. It's not a ghost that possessed you. Like That's why what the ████ Like Get to the modern ████ age, man. Like mental health and psychology, there's certain things that we understand now thanks to that. It's not a possession, you know? But >> Yeah, we don't just like put a what's it called? Burn sage around their heads. >> Yeah, because I think that soft ████ is kind of ridiculous with the whole like you need to get therapy for every ████ little thing in your life. But I do think like like just understanding like oh, maybe we shouldn't
32 kill somebody cuz they have schizophrenia cuz you know like cuz they think there's a demon in them or whatever. Like >> Those those guys should go. I mean >> It's just The schizophrenics? >> No, they're not coming back. >> [laughter] >> I think that's the thing, they do come back, they just go away again and then they come back. >> No, but what I'm saying, they don't come back to reality. It's done. Once you have it, you have it. >> But don't you wish you could have these smarter conversations though of like, "Hey, they found out that ████ you know, carbohydrates and sugar exacerbates ████ Alzheimer's or whatever." And then so you game plan with your parents and you're like, "Well, maybe you should cut out soda." >> it, you know. >> Or whatever, right? And then And then they'll be more receptive to that kind of conversation if they weren't so against science. And I think that's that's kind of where I was at is like, how do I get through your ████ brain like to accept like we should There's
23 hell of research and evidence behind certain things. It's not a guess. So it's like then we can live longer. >> Would you guys go to therapy? >> ████ no, they're ████ >> I'm just kidding. I would try it. I haven't, but I would try it. >> like a marriage one. >> Yeah. >> Once. >> Yeah. What did they say? Was there anything? >> Waste of money. >> Really? >> Waste of money. Yeah, I agree. I went to I I've done it before. >> And it does it wasn't good? >> It depends Well, I think I know too much cuz I I that I studied it and like and then I know the process. So I'm judg- It's like being too much into fitness. You probably have super high standards for a fitness coach. You're scrutinizing their methodology cuz you're like, "You're ████ ████ That's not how it's done." You know, like >> Yeah, when I had to go as a teen and my parents put me in therapy because they thought I was like had some kind of like men- Like they thought I had some kind of like weird
14 defiant issue. Like I always wanted to go against them. So they put me in therapy. The guy just didn't do ████ We just played Othello or chess every single session. And then I realized like a hobby but just one hobby makes more of a difference in my self-confidence than like any amount of therapy. So I just kept taking on hobbies and like, "Dude, I feel pretty good about myself just getting better at skills." >> He did his job. >> I feel like if I got guys ████ whack though. >> I feel like if I got sad enough though I would go to a therapist. >> Weak. >> I got no hate. >> Weak. >> Well, I haven't gone there but I don't think I would. >> Call him weak. >> But I feel like you got it you got a lot of people >> It's like urgent care. It's like urgent care for your feelings or something. >> I don't know if you know what happened to this old man but I think he could have used a therapist. >> I'm just saying when you sad you just Oh, that's me again. Honestly that feels SO GOOD THOUGH. >> [laughter] >> THAT FEELS SO GOOD.
04 >> I don't think you got [clears throat] enough people to talk to in your friend group before having to talk to a therapist. >> He doesn't want to reach out. >> I think my therapy is laughing about it. >> Yeah. >> And then they feel good. >> Yeah. >> But then I was but I yeah I don't know. >> He just he just doesn't want to reach out cuz I think >> [laughter] >> I know you like that but I I know you like that. >> He's doing ████ translation on you. >> [laughter] >> He just said he just said that he's he's open to it. >> Yes, I'm open to it. >> Yeah. >> Everyone knows you as this guy. >> Mhm. >> Joe knows you as this guy. We know him as this guy. >> Mhm. >> But at the end of the day when you feel like like that guy that guy you don't want to reach out and be like I don't want to be known as this guy in front of these guys. That's why I would rather go to a therapist, right? >> Are you talking about yourself right now? >> No, I'm talking about him. >> [laughter] >> I think he's doing therapy. >> I think you're like opening up. >> I think also people think that if you've
56 never been to therapy this they their their imagery of it is I'm going to go vent and they're going to give me advice. That's actually not how it's supposed to work. >> No, I know. It's I mean I went to a marriage one and then it was just like a whole it's a whole process, right? From the beginning to the end. Why and there's certain things you got to do to go like control your anger or whatever it was. >> Right. I totally don't knock it for other people. I think some people really do respond to it well. >> it was just telling me like it just ended up becoming sounded very random ████ Like ████ what are you talking about? >> have gone to a bad one. You [laughter] could have just gone to a bad one too. >> I mean I I could have, but apparently everybody like >> There's bad plumbers, there's great plumbers, it's like >> Yeah, yeah. >> At the end >> Never need a plumber. >> [laughter] >> Some people are so ████ badass. >> Dude, she made me lay down.
46 She made me lay down, close my eyes, turn off the >> So I was jerking you off? >> [laughter] >> I would go to that therapy. >> Yeah, I'll go to that one, too. >> But >> I wear silk boxers. >> Massage therapy. >> You made it sound so sensual. Bro, lights off, and she played this sound like and I was just like, "What the f███?" >> WHAT KIND OF ████ therapy did you go to? >> Are you at Ling Ling Spa? >> Ding Ding Spa. >> [laughter] >> bong >> Did they ask you about your past life and ████ >> Yeah, they asked me about everything. >> THAT'S NOT THAT'S NOT SAME >> Past life and why are you like What No, look, why are you like this with your wife? Why? >> That's not the same thing. >> You went to a magician. >> I went to a therapist. >> Past life, though? >> No. Like just like what happened?
36 >> Like the past in his life. >> Yeah, the past in my life. >> [laughter] >> Not when you're an Egyptian goddess. >> No. She hits me with the you know, if you're if you get angry, I need you to think of this all the time. A white shield is going to be around you. >> Uh-huh. >> And that is your protection and you need to walk away. >> Okay, so >> from the anger. I didn't like the fact that I was like feeling it. I was like, "Hold on, this might be working." >> Does she have nice titties, though? >> I don't know. I didn't really pay attention to her. >> Did you look at her, too? >> Dude, 11:00 hits, bong. >> Uh >> Oh, okay. Oh, lights on. All right, guys. You have a nice day. It was a pleasure working with you. And I was like, "Oh, ████ Do you have the cash?" Yeah, and I was like, "Oh, ████ Oh, ████ [laughter] Have a nice day. >> Dude, I'm going to need therapy for that therapy. >> Yeah, I need white shield for that. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. >> Now, call my I was like, "Babe, what the ████ It did not work."
28 >> That was marriage therapy? >> It was like a couples therapy but one-on-one first. It was like a one-on-one >> I was a chicken in my past life. >> I don't have to get a couples massage, then. >> Hell yeah. >> Yeah, dude. >> I think that therapy is great if you if you've tried everything else. >> Yeah. I think it's worth a try, probably. >> Yeah, for sure. >> Try taking a sick vacation first. Just chill out a little bit out there. People are so stressed. >> Best therapy is talking to your parents and then they annoy the ████ out of you and then you get grateful >> get grateful as hell. >> Afterwards you're like, oh ████ yeah. >> Right. >> What do you guys think, therapy is all BS or what's up?
