00 what up guys for this week only Black Friday week 100 random orders is going to get a postcard with our signed names name signatures signed we signed it personally the ████ you get a careful boys postcard that signed by all of us yeah if you buy the merch yes that's so funny cuz from the audience perspective they're probably like Joe is definitely thinking about something else for 5 minutes he's literally ask the exact same thing just Jo was like why did they laugh at me when I walked on [Laughter] [Music] stage welcome back to Jon Chen's tour promo episode of careful boys we're not going to talk about the tour though hey how was your special tyan American how how do you uh how that your special is

50 called Taiwanese American I it's called Taiwanese American human Ty American human straightforward I I don't know another name how how'd that come to be how's the process and uh how's the response okay don't ask about the response right away why it wasn't build to it well it was a it was the third of three questions so technically wasn't right where is your special anyways on YouTube I put it on YouTube because I just um I just cuz I never put out one and I just want to do one and um I thought that you could just put uh cameras in in like four or five different places and uh and make it look okay and that's not true so you need you need a lot of people like an actual production gr like an actual production group but I try to do everything on my own with a couple friends and we rented

41 the camera things it's really hard to make something good and you had a director like talking to everybody on director is me oh my God was it just four cameras like on tripods and you're like let's just roll them you hit play and then you run back on stage and you go we literally did that wow because so it's cheaper but then we had a camera operator one and then my other friend who's also on the show will Pepper he's a great guy very funny comic he also opens and um we just want to do it on our own that's so funny I tried though how but like how did it come out how did it come out I think it's okay is I think it's okay but I'm just not um I I made mistakes and I and I learned I I wanted to do because in the beginning of like 10 15 minutes I want to I don't want to

31 say an Asian thing immediately I want to just cuz there's a lot it's a thing where if you Asian comedian to say Asian thing cuz people cuz I in the beginning when I start a stand up I always talk about Asian stuff and then people go oh why you doing the Asian stuff is it like hack for Asians in comedy for for a time period I think like they're like oh he's just Asian you keep on talking about Asian stuff so I think that's your only thing what is is it calling it Taiwanese American human like off the bat in as yeah that's the first word yeah but that's me though though I know but I don't but but the actual content wasn't an Asian wasn't the first couple things you said about Asian stuff I watched the first part you did yeah see that this is why you ████ the algorithm ████ the algorithm you watch it for 10 seconds you turn it off it's like bro let it play on the tab brother let the ads go the come on man I'm just

22 Kidd I'm sorry thank you for watching for 10 seconds but thanks for watching the intro so you don't do Asian jokes no I do but I I want to do later so that I don't know maybe it's for me maybe it's for it's probably mostly for me just so that people are like oh maybe he's just human and then and then maybe in the middle is that how you do it once you reach the middle all right you want to hear some Asian jokes nuts no yeah Asian time Kong in the background I like your gun control jokes I try to do I try to do more um like a yeah the gun yeah maybe that's a cuz sometimes I hear like yeah I'm I'm in the middle a lot I'm in the middle of a thing a lot um like any opinion or argument thing but

13 every time I hear like one extreme thing I want to take the other side but um so now that you have the special can you not do those jokes anymore I try not to but you could I I feel like nobody if I can't do it in front of like 20 people because they they saw this special but but um I I try to write a new hour and I I have a great time uh try to write a new hour so is that where where you're working on stuff right now or like what what about the tour material is that all new stuff outside of what you posted in the special I would say um besides 10 minutes of it in the special the rest of it is new and I'm really when you write the when you write whatever first have a thought like idea or premise I get really excited I'm like oh this is a new thing that I feel like I I like it now

03 but then maybe like 3 4 months later I'm like oh this is a stupid thing and I hate doing it and I do it and then I'm like ████ that was that's stupid but if it kills you keep doing it right uh I have to because I don't have more things in the moment that I really like so I just do the yeah keep doing the thing yeah but we did a show together on David show and you guys came and that was so that was so cool that's pretty fun yeah that was a great time but um but yeah where you were on this special was that like okay like I toured out all my content this is the stuff I really want to put out online like do you come to that understanding like by the time you shoot the special I think it's so many different things one I never put one out and two um uh I just want to show uh the industry also like hey I could do an

53 hour um because some people go oh cuz a lot of people would do s up and then do like 10 20 minutes and they think they put all the jokes got do an hour is not you there's no way it has to have like a kind of like a through line thing something that makes a lot of sense that's like uh we talk about that too it's like we always do like our dance concept videos and then we only do like a minute video or we only do like a six minute show the world only thinks that we can do six minute performances yeah but even if you take a chance and you put out like an hour concept then it's like some producer might sit there and be like oh we can produce a show cuz people don't know what you can do until you put it out there yeah but I I I the one thing I learned is that I think think um in the beginning if you do two like a thing that is um of your style maybe people wouldn't jump into who you are immediately like sometimes maybe you

43 have to do something broader to get most people and then oh yeah and then go go more specific to who you are but then I think I started too narrow and then so then people are like oh this is stupid but I should have done like first 10 minutes of like really funny and like really like a little more General specifically talking about your special yeah yeah so you would have reordered I would have reordered 100% what's more General like how do you start general you talk about like and you know golden retrievers or smile a lot uh that's pretty General like yeah that's pretty cuz everyone everyone knows what I'm talking about yeah maybe something more like family family or like uh like relationship things I think people are more Universal things more Universal things yeah you can't start talking about a Anda off the bat I want to yeah cuz sometimes you got get there sometimes I meet somebody and I

33 immediately go just be too comfortable and be who I am and they're like well I don't like this ████ fuing stupid so you kind of have to go my name is this is where I am yeah the uh this is who I am and then golden retrievers man what would you what would you give us as advice as how we should start a standup comedy set I feel like there's because you guys have such a big fan base that wherever you go people already know you so I don't think it doesn't matter they're going to laugh at anything I feel like they I walked on stage and not said nothing and people laugh yeah because they love you no they they think I'm I look stupid no that's not true maybe a little bit how would anyone think you look stupid what were you wearing why what were they laughing at Bart W walked up on stage with a ████ crutch and they were laughing at

25 him I me it's pretty funny it is pretty funny it was a fake boot too yeah it was fake my is perfectly fine like a long con for gangs yeah so so would you say that that's the thing that you're most critical about on your on your special um I think everything like um like the yeah a lot of bits that I'm like oh I'm not really proud of this um but does it get laughs though yeah but but oh the Tony henchcliffe thing like when he did a really racist thing I I want to take all the SES because it is not like the most well thought out like perfect thing but then I think it's also really beautiful that in America you can say whatever the thing it is and I don't does that make I don't know yeah I think you could say anything you could just also get in trouble for what get in trouble but sometimes people so say oh that's not funny but he was in an arena and people laughed so what do you mean

15 is not funny they laughed oh you talking about like people online that are saying it's not funny or like some people who are like that's very distasteful and also the a lot of people like oh that's it's a whole ████ country yeah but he you know he's doing like thing try to get a laugh that's his his whole brand right but I don't know though yeah that is kind of funny people do that when they're watching like a person tell a joke and you can hear everyone laughing but then that comment says this is not funny yeah but the guy crushed you you heard it yeah it's like the remember the Chappelle was coming out with all his stuff and people were getting outraged but like dude he was ████ crushing it in the audience and I was laughing in my bedroom and then this person's crying behind a keyboard but then but then they're like you shouldn't be laughing it's not funny to me yeah can you imagine someone crying their eyes out to a Chappelle joke cuz they're angry

06 that's so crazy like dude that's hilarious that makes it even well that definitely happened though right but what even makes it so much funnier to me what's even worse is somebody mad at us because we made someone else cry and they're neither of those people everybody needs a white knight yeah I'll be a white knight and they're usually white too today's video is brought to you by Uncommon Goods spark something uncommon this holiday with just the right gift from Uncommon Goods that's right I know you guys out there want something unique for the holidays to give to all your friends and family but not only that you guys are conscious about supporting small businesses you want something locally American made you want to support the small dude and the small

57 gals out there that are trying to make it in this world but also be the life of the party when you show up to Christmas and have cool gifts such as custom cookies cherro kits all kinds of crazy stuff they got I don't want to say millions of stores but they got a lot of stores okay they got a lot of variety that you could go check out and you're going to be like wow I can't even believe that these things exist and you're going to be like wow I'm going to not only get this for myself but for my cousin for my auntie everybody and they're going to be like wow where did you get this stuff I know it wasn't from the stores that I usually shop at cuz I never seen it before to get 15% off your next gift go to uncommongoods.com sloff theer that's uncommongoods.com sloff theer for 15% off don't miss out on this limited time offer Uncommon Goods were all out of the ordinary what would you

48 say was your favorite thing about the special you put out um I I like the experience cuz it's a learning experience um I like that I did it with my friend and I like that it was in um a a beautiful Club um and uh where did you shoot it at Toronto Toronto and there's a lot of Asians in Toronto yeah and uh yeah I tried to yeah it's hard but I try to enjoy the experience I try to do better with um making decisions faster and just doing it did you tell people that you were like filming a special that you're were going to post you sometimes I feel like a comedian might be like welcome to the like the Netflix special and maybe like audience members like laugh extra hard yeah no I think they laugh less they're like cuz maybe they're

39 uncomfortable oh you're like self-conscious that the camera's on your yeah I don't think but maybe my energy is pretty goofy and pretty like chill so I think uh maybe hopefully that the audience is more chill would just off of you know yeah you're really funny dude very funny oh thanks man where did your film you're special at Toronto oh why you go all the way there because there's a lot of Asians in Toronto well there's a lot of Asians in Toronto but also he just missing everything he says um yeah also beautiful Club are you test are you testing him are you testing him so it's on YouTube then so we going catch you in a lie how many cameras did I feel like that's so funny cuz from audience perspective they're probably like Joe is definitely thinking about something else for five minutes she literally ask the exact same

31 thing Jo was like why did they laugh at me when I walked on stage that's what you're still thinking about huh yeah I like that but um yeah I tried to good yeah I like to um did yeah I try to make decisions faster like that's why sometimes I ask you when when I went to Vegas and I I Tred to ask yeah you guys too like how do you guys make decisions um and how do you like navigate uh when you when you are working with other people um because I want to know to so that I could maybe do better on some of cuz sometimes I overthink things a lot of the times I do but um in that so I asked you guys and then um yeah and that yeah it was The Learning Experience is my favorite thing and going with the

22 Jour the journey is nice how was the response um I think it's okay I I don't know I I always think it's not good and I always think is not enough but I what would be amount of views that would make you really happy that you're like oh ████ I crushed it I don't think I would I just want to do theaters I want to my goal is to just do whatever I can to perform in theaters so I don't care how many I care about every little things to views the the clips the all of those things but really ultimately if I could just do uh theaters and my goal in standup is just I think it's a pretty selfish thing to do standup but um I I would love if I could say a thing and then people could see themselves at me that's really gay to say but I think

12 that gay pretty gay but if I could just do that and perform and like let people have a good time for like so no more clubs you only want to just do just no I would love to do clubs too but it's just cuz if I could give my family like a good life and then I could um uh go to aan sometimes yeah wait so you're saying that theaters theaters draw a bigger crowd or like it's like the next stage from clubs I think it's because it's more seats that you have to fill and um I think it's also a validation thing or like people go oh he's you know he's doing it you're at that level now at that level so that if I go back to Taiwan and one of my cousins is a dentist I'm like yeah but I'm doing theaters yeah ████ on him but you do a club people are like oh are you okay do

03 you need money and then that doesn't feel good here's one of your top comments said saw Jason a few years ago in a small Club in San Francisco there were only five people in the audience but he had us cracking up glad to see him on the come up let's go that's cool man that's a gem I want to do my best it doesn't matter if it's like a little couple people or good if I saw five people I'm like I'm sick today bro I'm not ████ ████ this show ████ if they paid I I I have you could personally refund them yourself one by one I apologize I give them more if if it was if they PID 20 for the ticket I'm giving them 30 dude and then I'll be like ████ sorry about that have a ████ hot dog on me but yeah I ain't even going to perform at that point yeah yeah that's

55 nice if you just he just went in 100% see that's why this man is going to make it dude also I don't have another thing that's my only I only have one thing what do you mean you don't have another thing like I don't I cuz I really love doing standup and that's like one of the things I spend most of and I'm really passionate about it I would like to do other things but I think um it's always is another learning curve and also sometimes maybe I'm lazy what's the other thing like karate or something Jiu-Jitsu you want to do Jiu-Jitsu yeah cuz I think it's healthy and it but why don't you cuz you work out just yeah you're jacked already dude no it's not no it's lift up your Shir commitment though well I mean working out is a commitment yeah look at so ████ buff I'm the buffest guy man hey working out is a commitment you're buff for the bark

46 yeah but I go I go to like Park and I love Parks every you work out at a park yeah every city I go to I find a park and if there's water and a homeless man just fight him bro that giv me you're so Chinese d pry Chinese you're prettyy Chinese and if I see some family kids and I have a ice cream sit on the bench a little bit watch do you go at like the morning Tai Chi hour this what that Chinese Grandpa dude I really love that you're going to be like those Kung Fu grandpas that can do like handstands at 80 years old he does Chong in the park dude he doing this guy you ever do this in the park the Chong it's good for shoulders yeah it's good it's good for shoulders so you don't go to the gym you just go to a park and you just park kick kick kids off of the playground so you can do pullup and ████ I say ████ off you ████ and then I I go on the swing I was go to your go to your mother you ████

38 go to your mom you ████ so now that you put out that special is um you're on tour now yeah I'm on yeah t I think it's a just a forever tour I really try this is a cuz I love standup so much and I've been touring so much even before I could sell tickets I would I would tour um it's just that to to the people who don't know know that don't know about my stand up I just love doing it but for the first time I think maybe I'm getting older maybe family that I want to find something in town that I don't have to tour that much yeah yeah so you could stay at one place rather than being away all the time one of the main I never wanted that but now I do what are the main spots that you can go to in this area like in LA and stuff improv store Factory yeah flappers flappers yeah FL ha com there's a lot of comedy clubs here no wouldn't that mean you would constantly need new material in rotation

32 every every year I have about 35 minutes of new things and I'll do a little crowd work and then I'll do old stuff because that's the fastest that I could write I try to write faster like I every day I'll sit down for like an hour and two it but not nothing that I maybe is a good exercise but to just train your brain to um like you know write more things and use more words I say things a lot but um but yeah 35 minutes I Go on stage and I riff and find things that I like to say it's a good time I like it but uh yeah new things it makes me really excited when I have a new thing to say and and when you say tour MH is that like like how I saw you it's like you go to different like comic clubs and stuff like that and then you're like one of like four or five Comics that's in that lineup oh when I do my own so it's

22 like a different things so sometimes they hire me just to do like 30 minutes or however long and they'll book whoever on the lineup um but when I do my own show I do an hour and I I could bring friends that could open the show and we could do it together and that's the one of the parts that I love is that I could ████ around with friends that's like most of reason why I want to do standup is so that you can ████ around with friends and then do stuff but every time I do a show every time I do a show I feel like I'm scamming them every time I'm like honestly scamming who like the audience best 100% I I want to give him the best time but every time I go up I'm like I why are you guys here I'm a fraud but your show's so good yeah for real yeah I really appreciate that you guys are really the funny thing is you headlined the D David show David's show you

12 headlined it David didn't headline the old his his show that he brought together yeah but he could have he could have easily any of you could have but David's a ████ hater like a ████ and to let you be the headliner that means he really likes you I think I I I I I'm blindly I have not have to I really want to be blindly loyal to David because he really um supported me when I have nothing and um to you guys as well but he doesn't he doesn't support people that suck but to him he don't think I suck but some people may think I suck you know so I really appreciate that yeah I'm really grateful uh to David that uh that he believes in me and that's really that's really nice so nice you need to believe in yourself for that's true that'll probably help huh some days I'm like man I'm the ████ Best comedian ever yeah I'm hilarious

04 just like you're the buffest guy ever cuz you are right and then I'll say a thing I bomb I'm like I don't think I'm good at this you got to start thinking I should quit yeah I should quit Like A Champion black boxer that's how you got to start like Roy Jones Jr yeah yeah like you know Roy Jones Jr made his own rap song about how tight he was damn that's maybe that's what you need to do yeah but you need to do that ████ too man don't this is not about me oh man he not ████ about me dude can you not drop that so like he not ████ about me okay a taste of your own Zin I told you that in confidence all right episode brought to you by Bubba [Laughter] time no no J be all the way ask him one more time my Toronto where was your your special it was in Toronto oh I just I just answered like I I have never answered it why did

54 you decide to do it again
