00 understanding where people are at in their journey of wherever they're trying to get to and just making sure that it's a gradual path to get to where they want to be. And after every workout session you get a happy ending with Nick. Yeah, or or second egg. What's up everybody? Welcome back to a very introspective episode of the careful voice where hey, if this is too complicated for you and we're all close to each other then we can try our best to you know help that person discover this. But I would like everybody to try and answer this for themselves, all right? In your field of work, your specialty, your career, your industry, whatever it is, outside of JK what makes you special? What the ████ I just ask. What the
50 You mean Wait, what? I don't even know what you're asking. Like our key strength? What makes you special, makes you unique? What does outside of JK have to do with anything? Maybe for you it's like barbell, maybe for you it's like family vlogging, maybe for you it's like fitness in general. What makes you like if if somebody might be like Bart was like the one of the first Asian bodybuilders that inspired like the you know what I mean? Like that's a a special thing that maybe catapulted you into being able to create a brand that like represented XYZ. Like I said, if you need help because you can't Bart right now. It's it's like that. What do you feel like in your craft, in your in NT, in in jujitsu, in your training, your coaching, like what makes what you do special compared to any other coach or something? I think it's for us to try and be introspective to understand like what makes us stand out special or just be able to offer and provide a skill or service. I think for me when it comes to
41 coaching, I think one of my skills that I think carries me a long way is I'm very patient. And then the other thing is I just know how to meet people where they're at. I think a lot of times it's like That's a insanely good skill. understanding where people are at in their journey of where they're trying to get to and just making sure that it's a gradual path to get to where they want to be. And after every workout session you get a happy ending with Nick. Yeah, or or steak and eggs. skill right there. Steak and eggs with Joe usually. Yeah. With some sourdough toast on the side. That sounds good. I love that bacon and eggs place. This place is great. Yeah. And I like to say this even this prompt for me is evolving in that I think it'd be dope for us to kind of identify what we think is special about that person and then have that person add on because they obviously know their field best. Because we've all experienced or or at
32 least been witness to each other's craft outside of JK. Yeah. Uh and then the other thing too is I think it's the environment and the community that we're able to keep in all the places that we train at or where we see people. Um cuz I feel like combat sports or just anything is like really intimidating. And for me it was easiest way to get people in was just like being normal, trying to be cool, trying to keep it a very low um barrier of entry so people could actually come in and see that like yeah, once you start getting on the path you're like oh this is going to make my life better no matter what as long as I stick with it. I think that's the game. Yeah, what's up? Can I can I can I add what like for example my perspective is? Yeah, for sure. Is this on some like Just don't look at me in the eye though. No, I'm looking at you directly in the eye. the camera. No, you got to look them in the eye. If I don't look at you in the eye then
22 I'm looking at you in the ear which is very special. Okay, so like obviously there's like for example a Jiu Jitsu coach. Mhm. And then there's also for example a fitness coach or trainer, a personal trainer. I think the idea that you are proficient and educated and high level in both gives you a completely different edge and something that like as me as like a student to walking in and having you like personal train me, I know that you have something beyond just like this is how these muscles work scientifically or like this is how training stamina is. Like there's a function that you can take that skill and that practice into in a world that's like you're also very very ████ high level. You know, it's the difference between like somebody who just goes to the your 24/7 like I'm personal trainer versus like oh I train like these athletes at these high levels. You want to be a part of this
12 type of high level then this is the skill and methodology that like makes more sense to what you do. So I think that's very special on top of you being able to meet your clients like in a relatable way. And then add the fact that you do things like podcasting stuff gives you a world view and perspective through conversation and articulation that's unique. Versus you're just like oh I think you should eat this cuz macros. That's how I end up sounding though. Yeah but just eat that. But like people get to see and witness it through like social media so they know that they're getting a more well-rounded thing versus just like this is my personal trainer. No, thank you. That's very nice. I think it's so hard when you're in it. When you're the one doing it like and then and then it's easy to be like what is my strength? Well like cuz sometimes the things that you actually like isn't your strength. And I see this in a lot of people where
02 like like I really like I don't know or like they they want to be a stand-up comedian or whatever and then like maybe they're they're made for something else. Like event coordinating or whatever, you know what I mean? But it is I think it is important and I think it's a good exercise. I wish I would have done it sooner to identify find what your strengths are because then you can scale yourself. How do you measure it? If you never find that out You'll never know to double down on you'll never know how to double down and you'll never know how to replace yourself if you're trying to grow your business or grow anything. Cuz I I feel like right now I'm in a mode of like trying to figure out what to double down on. Yeah. For me I feel like I've done all these different things and I have to really go through that journey for myself of like what am I good at? What am I naturally going to start like kind of
52 chasing and doubling down on. So, I feel like I'm in that kind of like season of my life right now. The difficult part about finding your strength is it's so right under your nose cuz you naturally do it and it's like a breathing part where it doesn't feel like a strength cuz it's too easy. And that's what I realized recently because other people look at you and go, "Wow, how does he do that?" But in your mind it's like that's so ████ easy. So, you think a strength is something you work so hard for. And you think that's your strength. And then I realized no, like some people are like you're naturally that's something that you do because it's a part of your personality. And then if you can identify that, you can harness that skill. So, for example, like people say it's so hard to be funny, right? And then like if if it's something that we just naturally do cuz it's a part of our personality, we don't even know how to construct the funny. Or like you know what I mean?
42 It's like how do you even re-teach that to someone? I think that's what I uh think some strengths are and then you start because you love doing that part of you, you just start doing it more and more and more and then you start chiseling that tool better. Yeah, for sure. That's why sometimes it's helpful, especially through conversation with your peers, for people to like validate the thing that's unique about it. Cuz if it's just like as generic as like, "Dude, like how do you be funny?" It's like, "I don't know." And then your peer's like, "You're really funny at this thing." You might be able to double down on that thing and realize that that's the unique trait because if everybody in the room was funny, but you're funny because of this thing, then you could be like, "That's what makes me stand out." Yeah, like feedback helps so much. And I think that's why like competitions and things like that, it's good cuz you want to know how good you are. It's natural feedback of just like, "Oh, yeah." Cuz you're always going to feel like ████ Like you could be the number one
32 best jiu-jitsu guy, but if you never went to a competition, you really don't know where you stand. Yeah. Dude, I'm a natural. I'm just ████ forgetting to check footage sometimes. That's the best. ████ god. It's so It's so easy to just forget. Cuz I think yeah, going back to the whole like identifying your strength thing, we see that at the highest level, too. You know how like you have like your favorite artist and you're like, "F███, that album was a banger, right?" And it's almost so clear what their next album should be. And the next album they drop, they think this is their strength. Yeah. So they drop that album and you're like, "What the f███?" Yep. And then but they're So I think that's kind of almost like the path to self-awareness is being able to identify what your strength is. And then when you can replicate it and when you can construct it, that's when
22 you finally have the true mastery of it. You know people say like, "You don't know something until you teach it?" Oh, yeah. All right. So I think once you can teach what your strength is to someone else, then you're like, "Oh ████ this guy actually knows what his strength is now." I want to learn how to delete stuff. How'd you do it? The recycling bin. It's that big on the desktop. Trick is It's the same You just make it as big as the rest of the stuff. It's the biggest icon. It's my most used. Yeah, lately I've been thinking about this, too, cuz I feel like in my 20s and even into my 30s, um everything was just you're going with the flow, you just go go go. You don't really think things through at all. You don't even reflect. No. So you just build upon building. You're just building. Yeah, you're just redlining everything.
13 You're saying yes here, yes there, right? And then like slow like and then when you gain like I guess later on in life you start looking back and you're like, "Oh ████ maybe I could have just chilled out a little bit in that department." But you also don't know what you're made of unless you do that. push your limit, you got to find out where your line is and then push it even further to see if like how do I feel when I'm doing this? Do I feel like I'm getting somewhere? Do I feel lost? I feel stuck. I'm curious to not speak so damn conceptual and speak specifics to So you're talking about skills rather than personality traits. Yeah, okay. I see. Individual and what makes you unique or your strengths or whatever, yeah. What makes you you Like Joe, what do you think makes you special in your field outside of JK? Like so one thing would probably be um I can tap into a part of me where I like like I I just I'm under pressure and I just need it to ████ work and I figure it out somehow. But during that like when and it sucks cuz then I don't want to stress out anymore, but then I'll get myself into sometimes stressful situations because I'm too confident that I can figure it
55 out. I feel like that's your superpower, though. Yeah, maybe his That's your superpower. Maybe his your superpower is surviving. So you're like, then I can do Mount Everest. I can do whatever because you're not you're not you're like, I'm going to survive no matter what anyways. But then I beat myself up when I'm in those moments. Then you're like, why the ████ am I on the top of Mount Everest? But but like you said but like you said though like you you you're the best dude in the world or whatever. Like you're still the same thought process going through your head like, ah this is ████ sucks but I'm going to do it anyway. You know like that's What am I doing in the Bermuda Triangle? It's like, what the ████ Like how did I get myself here but I'm going to do it. I think I think for me my skill or specialty is the realization of knowing that I'm only at this level of like IQ thinking like I don't think I'm a like anything like special or anything, but the fact that I don't know jack ████ but I can still
46 get all these things done. I feel like okay, there's something there, but I don't know what it is. I don't even know what you just said, dude. know what you mean. I think I know what you mean, but It's like my view of myself is like you know I'm a nobody. I'm not good at anything. I'm just doing these things just because like that's just what I feel like doing, right? You know what I think you're good at? Because like that didn't even sound like you saying that you're good at something. Uh I think you're really good at nerding out on stuff. Yeah. Oh. You only nerd out on stuff you really like and that's actually really difficult for a lot of people. fast. You get good fast at things. That's what I'm saying. I don't know how I got to that point because I don't think I You know what I mean? Well, that's what I'm saying. I don't know what you just said again. You only nerd out on You're good at nerding out and then you only nerd out on things that you like and I think
36 that's already a really difficult thing for people to do because everything that you like that you nerded out on you made it your career. Yeah. True. crazy because so many people do in their career the thing that they don't like because they don't know how to turn it into their career. So even if you don't know what you're doing that's like a super trait. That's true. Cuz like you'll be dancing because you just like it and that's what got you good. You didn't do it because you're like I need to be good at this for work. You're like I just like this ████ got good enough for work like that. So if you could even take that same energy whether it be ████ anime or content creation through anime cuz you nerd out harder you still watch every episode of like One Piece and I'm like bro like I I grew up at some point and I I moved on to like modern anime, but you're looking at ████ 480p ████ thinking like this is classic gold, but like there's something if you chose to if you wanted to not saying you need to,
28 but like there's a superpower there that other people don't have. I do feel that way about my path in life is like if I really do want to achieve something, I know I can if I put in the work. It's not so so much of a like, oh, I wasn't born with this talent, so I'm not going to pursue it. I I'm I thought about this like years ago when um it's basically after ABDC was when I realized like, oh, ████ I can if I can do this with dance, what else can I apply this to? Cuz I saw the path already and how easy it was because in my mind it was easy because I'm just doing something fun. Yeah. Right? So, if I put that into something else, what could happen, right? But then I realized really quickly that it doesn't always go that way for anything else. Cuz I tried that with music. I mean, there's limits, you know, no matter
18 what. And it's in order to break those limits, you really have to love the thing you're doing. But sometimes I realize, oh, my limit is I only like some things. I don't like everything. Yeah. You know, we made three albums. I mean, I I've seen you like being my roommate, uh we made three albums, we made money on that. I saw you become an artist, you were starting to do portraits, you made money on that. There are a lot of And then you all of a sudden got into sound engineering and you started making money off of that. And then you be got into like deep into editing and now you built a editing company. So, like most people just choose one of these things and start making money off of the one other things. But you get into all these things, you deep dive, and then you start actually monetizing it, and it's not just a hobby. Yeah, I think the the flip side of that, the the negative downside to that is like I can't really stick to one thing
08 all the time. Like it has to keep like fluctuating. Like, oh, one week I'll be doing dance, one week I'll be doing editing, one Yeah, I like the change up because to me, like I should be doing one thing, but then if I did that, I feel like for some reason I would be losing because I'm not able to dance more or I'm not able to That's what I'm saying. That might be a superpower. You You're If you like something, you're going to do it. Cuz you're also also you're also not s█████ at five things. Like you're good at five things. Mhm. That's a superpower. That is a superpower cuz most people have a lot of hobbies and they ████ and they're ████ at all the hobbies. For real. And you might be surrounded uh by people in those five different industries. So to yourself you're like, "Oh, I'm not really like good at True. But if you separate yourself and you think about even just the amount of people that pursue something that they like and then make money off of it, then you're already in like this higher tier
00 of success, then you're putting yourself at like the bottom of the next step is all, which is why you might feel like you have somewhere to go. For sure. And I think what kind of keeps my head on straight and not like let it get too crazy is just being thankful for each thing that I get to do, you know? Like like ████ I get to ████ dance and ████ travel for it. Like just that alone I'm like, "I should just be happy with whatever I have now and just keep building and not trying to be like greedy or like oh I want more, you know, or whatever, you know?" But yeah, for sure. Damn. It's like that. A lot of parallels. His skill is the ability to build skill. I'm a good student. Not because you you do go into things very open-minded. And I think that's a good thing for you too is like you just go, "Okay, I'm here to do this." That's true cuz you know a lot of people
50 fail before they start. That's what I realized. Not everyone's a learner, bro. Like you get so many people that come that try to learn a skill and then you're like, "You're not even in a place mentally where you're ready to like take on something new." You know what something that's really valuable that I learned from doing multiple things is you actually only really need one skill to learn anything and it's uh to be consistent and start with the basics for anything. Yeah, then you learn the tools to build all the other skills. Exactly. And if you apply the same cuz I used what I learned through dance to apply to everything in my life and it always works like almost 100% of the time because you just stick to the basics and be consistent and practice. But I think also that's learning though. Exactly, but that's the real secret though. But but I feel like for everyone even in this room everyone started with a base where they learned the fundamentals and then they started branching out and whatever other companies they worked in
41 and other industries they worked in they used the same like blueprint to be like, "Okay, I can learn this too." And just stay in it for a couple years and then move on to something else. And it has to make sense with your personality too cuz some people aren't built for pain tolerance. Cuz for growing and learning you're going to go through a lot of like suffering, like, "F███, this is difficult." And You feel like a dumbass all the time? Exactly. But you if you can tolerate pain like that, like mental pain, then you can pretty much do anything. I do think that um like a lot of people haven't completed things. So like one of the things I wish my parents like kept me in something until finishing. Cuz that builds a lot of confidence in a young person. Like you like you were able to uh in high school or whatever be on TV and then you go like travel the
31 world and you did ABDC, right? And that already goes, "Hey, if I work hard and stay consistent, I will be rewarded." A lot of people don't even get there. So what happens I notice is they're dreaming a lot of that life and you're imagining a lot of that life and then it's actually ████ hard to practice to do that. But you'll see this in the creator space all the time. They want to be the creator, but they don't want to do the work for it. They want to be a baller, but they want the baller's money, but they don't want the lifestyle of that baller cuz they don't see the pathway and actually the pathway sucks. Yeah, it does ████ suck. To be a fire you can't just get down, you got to actually train every ████ day. And that part sucks cuz you lose all the time. And I was like getting frustrated at these beginner
21 books and a lot of those stuff cuz like I would say 60% of the book is all about motivation. And I realized why that's so important for beginners. To get people off their ass. Cuz it's the belief part. Like the belief part of like I can do it and and it's like they need a lot of like pumping up because um I just don't If you haven't accomplished anything, you don't know if you can do something. But for us it's like all humans can. You just stick with it. Mhm. I would also say don't aim for motivation. Motivation is very temporary. It just gets you going, but then it it goes away real quick. So the thing you should be aiming for is dedication. Like just the the the longevity. The habit building. habit. The simple ████ Focus on the small ████ But I think it starts with that cuz like people need like the carrot at the end of the string. In the beginning cuz like
12 look at all industries like bodybuilding. It comes because of like people want to look sick and have girls. Like it never comes because I want to be healthy and long life like living. It's none of the boring ████ right? It's like all It's like why do you want to be rich? I want to be rich so I can ████ buy anything I want and then like have fun, right? So like it always starts with some vain Dan Bilzerian. ████ Yeah. But the good news I I think I think the good news is like if you have zero skill, zero talent, it doesn't matter. You can still Yeah, you could either give up or you can still make ████ work for sure. That's how I feel. If I can Work ethic always beats talent and ████ I believe that. I believe in that work ethic. Yeah.
