00 [Music] welcome back to JK out of the closet today we're continuing with Bart and so go you you went from Robin houses and all that kind of jam sound so funny when you say and and now you kind of get into the military eventually tell us how that starts so yeah like got kicked out of four schools did a bunch of bad stuff I'm the only child so I always had this feeling of like man I'm such a and um my parents only have one kid and their one kid is like rotten but inside a feel I'm I'm an angel so I'm like what can I do to try to like fix things and try to get back on track cuz ever since first grade the day that I got kicked out um I've always been trying to get back on track it's just it's it's

50 hard and then so I ended up uh joining the military and I was like I think this would be a good way for me to cuz that's like my dad has always talked highly of the military you know he's like this is what a man's supposed to be you're supposed to like do this and be disciplined and be on time and and like be like self-correcting and then where like people don't have to tell you what to do you know what to do all the time and I'm like okay fine maybe that's what what I what I should do was he in no okay he fled communist China he watched the parades though he L communist parades if you're a fan of that I think you're a fan of them that's what blows my mind is like that fool hated communism but every single time when I live with them he has it on repeat I don't know anyone that watch you don't you don't have to believe the political views to like parades yeah but don't you want to watch like the non-communist

41 parades but they're not as clean and organized as the Chinese parad Communist parad is probably the best parades are better than our parades by a mile they have aing nuke in the middle of it like they're draw rolling out a big missile and ████ our parades are like some old ladies in like a Volkswagen yeah dude and they're not allowed to take a knee like we are you know over here like if you're like if you're the military you take a knee over there it's like this will takes a knee pow pow that's why they walk with no kneecaps straight leg where we have like big inflatable Pikachu and ████ like that it's not as good that's tight so yeah I end up joining the uh the military um and you guys if you guys watch the other videos you guys kind of know like why I chose the Marine Corps um but like long story short I was just looking for the hardest one I was if I'm going to do something I'm going to pick the hardest one not knowing that there's other things out there like special op operations like every single

31 branch has has its own special operations I didn't even know about stuff like that I think for me I was just so ready to just jump into the next thing that I was like okay I heard you guys are really tough the boot camp is the longest I'm going to just join and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made um timeline wise is this After High School right after high school right after yeah right after high school um and it ended up being one of the best decisions I've ever made because in boot camp especially like the Marine Corps boot camp they really teach you that you have like this extra battery that you didn't really think you had where like whatever you thought was your own limits like you get pushed way past Beyond it to the point where you find what they call like your you know your second wind or whatever and um cuz before then I remember so I wrestled in high school

22 and I remember even people going like oh like we should go run a mile before practice or after practice I'm like a mile that's the thing I used to sit out and ████ hide behind the bushes and sit and smoke cigarettes for like I don't want to ████ that's forever and then in boot camp you probably run like 10 miles every single day it's like it's like nothing and then in Marine Corps boot camp you have this thing called The Crucible which is like the culminating event where you are labeled a marine and um leading up to it like you have a 5 mile hike with like 80 lbs of stuff then the next week it's 10 and then 15 and finally when you do The Crucible it's this 3-day event you cover 50 mil on foot with a 80 lb pack and you have one meal a day and you only sleep 2 hours every single day so by the time you and and then and if you go to boot camp on the west coast uh there's this thing called The Reaper where the mountain

13 goes like this and flattens out goes up and flattens out so every time you get to the top you're like yes until you come up and you're like what the ████ there's another one it's like the Homer Simpson episode so yeah so really ████ with you but then by the time you get to the top you accomplish something that you never thought you could good that people that you beefing with everyone's hugging and crying it's like you know when you see like two fighters in the UFC that they were like your ████ wife sucks my dick or your kids are ████ and whatever and then afterwards after they fight they're like they're like oh ████ man we shared This Moment Forever that's why we love the sport yeah yeah all that ████ I love that ████ this kid still this kid like you you feel that because of how hard it is and so that made me go like oh ████ like when people go through ████ together and it's like really

03 really difficult and you actually know what real hardship is what you thought was hard is it's like frivolous doesn't ████ matter also backtrack to the timeline when you said you're right out of high school were you like ████ College that's why like you wanted to join the Marines no I was trying to be a good Asian boy so I spent 5 years in high school good Asian boy to the extra year so what I was trying to do was that's why I didn't go active but looking back I should have went active I was trying to go what does that mean so you can go either active where you just do Straight four years in the military or you could do the reserves which is you go to school and the military at the same time ah so I did reserves where you you go to boot camp is the same then you go to MCT which is like Marine combat training which is the same then you go to your school which is the same so technically you're you spent like a year active but then afterwards then you come

53 back to civilian life and you get to go to like East Community College and do whatever whereas everyone else spends the next three years doing active duty stuff and I think that's what I should have done so I can get more out of the military but at that time I was really trying to get back on track as fast as I can so I think I was had there been a contract where I just go through go to boot camp and I go right back to school I would have done that so I'm just really just trying to get back to like showing my parents I'm not a ████ up you know and and when you say get more out of the military is that like conceptual get more or is it like literally like if you go active during that time there's like what do you get oh like the experiences like experiences like being able to like let's say uh work at the Embassy in Greece or sign up for other branches or departments or other operations and like just really more

43 skills and ████ more skills dive deeper go to way more schools like there's actually a ton of different schools in the military go to like Survivor school or you know like or parachuting school like get a lot more things that you can only get out of the military that you can never get out of a like civilian college did your parents show up to your when you graduated boot camp like the ceremony did they go to that so that was the crazy part that was like the first time my parents were together um throughout my whole life they both showed up to my graduation and both of them were like balling so they're like he's not going to ████ up not to ████ up and then he finished one thing I know finally when was yeah when was the last time you actually graduated an institution was it never so then the boot camp thing was the first thing for them yeah cuz in junior high I you know you have eighth grade promotion or whatever um I had so I was had so many

34 like demerits as they call it I couldn't go so my mom drove me to my eighth grade promotion in the car I'm like look that's what you should have been doing so that's smart I like that so I'm like there're like I'm like damn and then you can and everyone goes to the Disneyland trip or whatever I couldn't go to the Disneyland Tri did you drive outside of Disney go that's where it is it's right in there you would been there go to the goofy lot and then uh so I as I'm getting it I got kicked out of all those high schools and then ironically I spent 5 years in high school but I didn't have enough credits to graduate still so in the summer I had to go to summer school to and the only reason thank God I signed up for the military cuz they need a diploma mhm so I would have probably just dropped out I would have spent 5 years in high school and dropped out but because they needed a diploma I was like ████ I got to finish those ████ credits so I went to summer school in my senior year to finish all those credits

24 so I end up picking up my um my diploma from the admin office and I went straight to the recruiter here it is and then they were able to fill out the paperwork and then wow yeah and join join the military once you're once you're um once you're in the military was there a moment for you where you're like holy ████ I see a big difference in myself now I think um so Marine Corps boot Cam's broken down into three phases there's phase one where I would probably consider that like the breakdown phase you know how they break you down and Build You Up mhm break breakdown phase you don't have time to think about anything it's like the minute you wake up which is 4:00 5: a.m. get the ████ out and you get out of your your bed and they do a quick roll count so goes like 1 2 3 four 5 and there's like 80 of us and then they start playing games games

14 meaning like put on your pants right now take out your ████ shoes right now run into the ████ head which is a shower run head right now turn the hot water right now turn it back off and then like you're just constantly doing like calisthenics for like an hour or two like non-stop then everyone is ████ drenched they have mud all over their face they go outside then you sprint to the child Hall and that's where you you eat your breakfast and you and it's more games so you have your food your scrambled they oh you want to eat ████ slow and they're dump ising all on your food oh this this guy's ████ done if he's done you're done you're done done everyone's done so you only eat like half your meal everyone get the ████ outside so you're Sprint through the CH you're literally like like if you have let me see here's your tray you're walking through like HomeTown Buffet like ████ and then like like just trying to eat cuz you know the next meal is ████ 5 hours later I mean 5 hours later and then so you you you literally go through that whole thing like 30 seconds you have no food you have you

05 have more food on your face than inside your mouth pull-ups then you go get thrashed again then you do some obstacle course ████ it's like morning till night you get ████ up and then at night when you're sleeping you'll hear people in their bed like like crying cuz they're like they're like what damn for real so demoralizing grown men hey what would you think in your head when you hear those guys like crying I thought they were ████ yeah that's good so you weren't crying not a tear not one tear Bart I was like this is why Asian pars beat the ████ out cuz people be like crying and ████ and then on Sundays you have like two hours to yourself where you get mail whatever people like my girlfriend Sarah still loves me and I'm like my parents ain't going to

56 write me letters cuz they don't even love me so I don't even care you're just relaxing I don't have to read anything I don't know to reach the guy comes in male he's like n for me I get to relax I get my true alone time yeah so the first like first phase phase one which is the first month is just breaking you down so I didn't really have time to think about much except going holy ████ like what I thought was hard work before was not hard like you you would think like oh ████ I have to ████ study or whatever and I'm like cuz I used to complain about studying I'm like ████ hate study hate whatever I'm like dude that's that's ████ nothing give me a book I'll ████ read a book I don't want to do this ████ so it's like all ████ day pleas give me give me a trick I'll take it yeah and then then uh phase two is uh

46 you shoot it's just like a shooting phase so you're you go to another part so you leave MCRD which is Marine Corps Recruiting Depot and you go to Camp Pendleton and you spend a month there on the Range so every day you're probably shooting like a thousand rounds like you're just becoming a master of the AR pretty much and Everywhere You Go is on foot so there's like if we're going to eat over here like 2 miles over here on foot you go to the range another 2 3 miles on foot even the range itself is 500 yards so it's like five football fields going from one side to the other on foot and I remember going like damn I didn't know my feet could work so good cuz I'm so used to rides and you know like riding and ████ and then it's not until like uh phase three where I was like holy ████ I

37 think I'm a different person now like going through all that I'm like I've been broken down I've been built up I did The Crucible which a lot of the times that's where most people fall out like either they fake an injury or they quit or they get recycled sometimes it's not even your choice sometimes it's just boot camp so hard you have a you have a a fractured Shin you have to get sent to the hospital like your heart wants to complete it but your body breaks down and that happen so like we started with like 90 people and then we ended up finishing with like 60 tell people what The Crucible is Al so Crucible is a the thing I said it's a three-day event 50 mil covered in 3 days you have 80 lb pack you go through a bunch of obstacle courses teamwork events um and then you eat one meal a day and you sleep like 2 hours every single night for the people who fail The Crucible can they go right like if they heal can they just do The

28 Crucible again or they got to do the whole you go back to the last phase okay so Crucible end of second phase at the time that I went cuz they keep they keep rearranging boot camp um so for if you went during my time if you failed The Crucible you have to go back to the beginning of phase two but you don't have to go back to phase one okay yeah but yeah phase one is definitely the hardest like you you want to get past that sh you don't want to stay in phase one too long cuz it'll it it'll break you and then oh yeah but after phase two is when like you start writing letters to your parents to arrange when they're going to come visit you for the graduation and then I know my mom's ass couldn't uh drive to San Diego on her own so she end up coing so I would WR go uh this is my my best friend's phone number call them arrange with their parents they're going to come cuz my parents aren't going to come together U my dad he he drove there on their own

18 and I think that was the time where I was like holy ████ I think I'm a new person and then I think I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to because I've already accomplished 10 times more than I ever thought I could in in boot camp just by pushing yourself yeah yeah yeah were you always scheduled in discipline or do you think the military did that I think the military did that cuz I mean I I grew up in the 56k internet culture you know where everyone's playing ████ games until 4:00 a.m. and then went raving and then so like you're like you come home when the sun's coming out you know yeah and then so like that was my normal schedule and then but after the military I think it was a good shift where I remember arriving home uh between boot camp and MCT which is Marine combat

08 training you have 10 days of leaf during the 10 days you get to go home and I remember during those 10 days at like 5:00 a.m. I would just like wake up cuz I was so ████ used to it and I was like oh ████ and so that kind of became my my new Norm but a lot of people relapse back to their old lifestyle after the military yeah yeah but you just kept it you were able to just keep that like routine I think the other thing that helped was uh was probably college and working out so like yeah a lot of people relapse kind of like you know NBA basketball players they get fat after they're done with the league so Charles Barkley Shack they all FS but I think for me um I enjoyed working out so that was actually like a hobby of mine and to fit that with going to college the only place I could really fit it was just in the mornings

00 and then so it just helped me structure my day to be like oh I'll just work out and then I'll take my classes and then because I was actually able to be productive like that I ended up scheduling the rest of my like the rest of my life like that I'm like oh you know what I'll do I'll do working out and then now I'll do like what JK or ble Brigade RP whatever and then you know I just I'll add it all so you saw the usefulness of the structure the structure the scheduling and then seeing how like if you do this and then you run this for a few months you have something productive out of it um that I think that's what helped me what what was the moment for you that was like the closest to breaking down or quitting not saying it got close for you compared to other ████ as you call them but everyone's a ████ in boot camp even I was a ████ how were you a ████ yeah I was a ████ in multiple ways the first one was um

55 BR so one of them so you guys know me now right like I really care about hygiene yes so obviously in Phase One when people are going to bed with ████ hair uh hay ████ grass camo paint dirt like even in the shower the time you have to shower it's like ████ ████ games time where they're thrashing the ████ out of you but I like being clean so I'm waiting until the entire uh what they call the squad Bay or the barracks when it's still then I'm like all right cool now it's time for me to take a shower a real shower so I would slowly get my soap and stuff and I would slowly go to uh the head which is what they what they call uh like the bathroom and I might turn on the water just a little

46 bit cuz there is a drill instructor on duty at night too and then so I'm like try to take this shout so if he hears you what happens so I I found out the hard way and and I got and I got lucky this guy he W I was like mid putting ████ shampoo and I mean all that stuff all over me I'm like I'mma sleep so ████ good and I I remember this Dr walking by he goes like what the ████ and everyone has that voice that frog voice cuz they're so they're screaming all day like what the ████ what the ████ are you doing like this and you speak in third person this Rec taking a shower sir and then he's like get the ████ out of here and I remember just like going with soap yeah I'm just going to get two more ████ things like Rines out of it and then going to bed gr now why am I such a ████ little ████ cuz then you would see like cuz you'll see like some

36 of the most studiest dudes you've ever seen like ████ D1 football play types and for them it's just like I don't give a ████ if I'm dirty they just feel so manly you know and then they're like they're like I don't give a ████ I ████ ████ and ████ eat steak and then they look like that versus me I feel like who I am on the inside I'm laying in the bed oh got dirt oh oh ████ sweaty oh so that's how I feel yeah yeah yeah yeah so that's why I have to take a shower cuz that's how I feel I feel so sticky yeah I'm like why do I got to be such a ████ ████ why do I got be ████ ████ where everything's ████ what fck what the ████ is that ████ I'm so uncomfortable okay you said multiple ways how else were you ████ another one was um that that's not quite

26 the same like you almost quit yeah list up go the the other one was um in boot camp if you have bad eyes they give you glasses that they call portals right I ████ I ████ hated those things so I was like you know what I'm going to see if I could just wear contacts the whole way through so I had my mom send me contacts in the mail uh but in first phase you don't have mail so first phase I just wore the exact same contacts for a whole month with all that dirt and and I never took it out ████ stuck to my eyes I could have went blind I'm so ████ holy ████ I remember like like who needs a like uh eye correction go here so they you see the optometrist I'm oh this recruit doesn't need it so I would just get filed until finally um how do they find out I think I think

19 they open the mail and they're like Kanan what the ████ are these I was like contact sir he goes why the ████ do you have contacts this recruit can't see sir and then so he made me go into the ████ bathroom and pull them out and I remember pulling them out felt like peeling my dick skin back for the first time that's crazy I was like oh ████ this ████ crazy and then after to wear ████ after to wear portals I'm like ████ this is this is backfiring so ████ bad wear portals yeah and I I ████ hated those things so yeah and then the the time I guess where I almost quit would be on on The Crucible everything was kind of manageable like if I felt like whatever my 100% was it might go like 90 95 and there' be times okay no there's there's

09 another time almost quit where I'd be like um oh ████ if it gets crazier in there then this I'm going to ████ pull the plug but but it never it never did until when we got to the reaper the reaper was so steep like if you're like this you'll touch the slope wow you know what I mean so it's like that'll touch the ground so and you're going like this like 80 lb P oh my God so I remember like so were you crawling yeah yeah so I remember going up the first time and then I'm like uh you get over the first hump and you're like what the ████ cuz you think you did it you know the first time you you you you cross the first hump you're like that's it ████ yeah suck my dick but then you cross it you're like oh my God so it's such a demoralizer when there's no ending when you don't know when the finish line is and I just told myself I ain't ████ quitting no matter what I'm just going to keep going one in front of the other uh and that's what they all say they say

59 ever look at the end look in front of you if you look at the end you you're going to make yourself quit so I would just push I would like literally go like this like one leg at a time and just keep going until I hear people cheering in front of me cuz you know you're in like a platoon of like 80 people until I hear people cheering from like I ████ did it then I'm like oh my God I did it too and I'm like that so I almost quit there and then the other one is uh during water confidence so there's when I went when I was in there's four levels of water confidence and then it's important because everything that you do in boot camp kind of qualifies what you're able to do later on so like let's say later on if you want to jump out of an airplane if you're level four you're not good enough of a swimmer to jump out of a parachute cuz you you will land in the ocean sometimes so for me I'm like

51 I'm I want to get uh I want to get level one level one qualifies sh for every other other job so the first one it's pretty easy you just got to jump off like a four story type building with all your gear and then just kind of like float across the pool this is when of the first time I figured oh I learned that oh ████ black people really can't swim I I thought it was a stereotype big lesson but but they really can't and then even in boot camp it's a big joke cuz they'll all be lined up and then like the J instructors will walk by like and they'll be like um um I'm not going to name any names but who do you think is going to fail swim call and every like the brothers the brothers and I would see like 6'2 ████ Michael jaiy looking dudes like literally crying for mommy in the water W like I'm going to die whatever so I was like oh ████ this is ████ crazy

41 like I saw how water became the great equalizer so I did swim qual 3 swim call 2 everything was was was doable cuz I swam competitively in junior high then swim qual one that was a hard part cuz you have to save a drowning victim but the drowning victim is a drill instructor oh yeah try to drown they're going to make it tough on you so he's so imagine like a ████ Brock Lesnar in the ████ water and then he's like I'm drowning I'm drowning come get me whatever right so you have to do the whole protocol you swim up to him and then you go here I'm here to save you and then uh oh no no you have to back up they don't even allow you to see them so you you back up and then they'll from behind you they'll just dunk you into like a 13t pool and they're like rear naked choking you and the technique of what you're

31 supposed to do is you find the uh this pressure point in the biceps you squeeze really really hard you let them go and then you go down all the way to the bottom of the pool and once you're at the bottom you come all the way back up and the reason why you want to go down is any drown victim that is holding on to you they don't want to go lower they want to go higher so when you go down to the bottom of the pool um they'll usually let go so you come back up then you go don't do that give me your arm they give your arm and then you pull them and you side stroke away the first time I did it this drill instructor he was not letting go and I was going like this the whole ████ time and then I ended up tapping so he brings me back up ████ ████ I'm like ████ and then so I'm like ████ don't tell me don't don't don't ████ tell me I'm not going to get swim call one

21 second I was and then he was like all everyone that's done go out go out the the door and I was like this recruit wants to do it again so I did it again this time because you're already winded um I I couldn't finish like after I pulled his arms out you couldn't get back down when I got to the bottom I jumped out the first place I swam to and I felt like a ████ ████ cuz I got up to the water first place I swam to was the side of the boat and I was like you know that feeling when you're like you really need to hold on to something like I like that I'm like ████ why I such a ████ ████ I I really want this and then finally um everyone was just walking out I was like this recruit want to do it again and then this time I was just like you know what if I die I die I don't want to ████ this is the third time in a row the third time they let me do it the third time in a row in a row do they

11 normally let you have that many attempts I think it's all time based if they have time they'll let you do it oh wow cuz like as mean as drill instructors are they they're actually there to help you pass yeah it doesn't seem like it but they're really there to help you become the next better person so this if you show Heart they'll always they'll down so like this recruit want to do it again and then finally I was able to do it I was like this ████ ████ hate this guy and then um I was able to do the whole thing I pulled them all the way across and then I finally got it but the fact that second of 10, was like this I felt like a ████ ████ I was like what the did did the guy you saved did he say anything to you after you finally saved him no cuz it's it's a machine like hey I only died twice today thanks for seeing me the third time no it's cuz the machine like he's there's recruits running through he know like a factory so he probably doesn't even

01 remember my name but he gave you some feedback earlier he called you a ████ ████ earlier so he called me a ████ I was wondering if there was a flip side of that no he just said uh and then they'll never compliment you in boot camp it's not like the movies he's not like hey you actually uh prove me wrong today maybe when you graduate maybe when you graduate he takes he takes off he goes here this belonged to my father here's a prople heart TR uh wow well thanks for sharing your experience about joining the military we're going to talk about something a little bit lighter uh coming up when Bart joined JK AKA started JK uh when we return from this ad break
