8:28 Spring oh okay so the first year was tough for me cuz I'd never taught anything let alone at the University level and I got lucky with that teaching trying to get into a university like trying to get into the mafia it's like you have to know people but through and I hate to say tragedy did this but the year I graduated with my masters at Cal Baptist was a year my mom was killed and I was going to getting ready to quit the program I had one friend out of my cohort the rest of the students in my in that group going through her name is Victoria Brody she was getting her Masters as well and um earlier U about a year prior her husband had uh been battling cancer and um he he came out of it and got it again and she was getting ready to put School away and I said hey you know you're doing really good and I would encourage you to stay because it's a good distraction for you but ask your husband
9:18 what he would want you to do and she says I don't have to I already know what he would want me to do she he knew he would know that this is my dreams to get my masters and she wanted to become a professor so she was going to get her doctorate as well um so she did and then a few months later my mom died and I was getting ready to quit but we were only like a month or two away from graduation and um she said hey remember what you told me and I think it'd be good for you to stick around and be a distraction it really was for me to focus on school instead of sitting at home um cuz you know working a full-time job running a family and then getting your Masters after you've been away from school for like 10 12 years kind of it's kind of a uh it's nerve-wracking to be a student all over again yeah and um I did and I I I I knew I was doing good you know I was getting A's and I and then the the class that my mom was killed on I missed a couple assignments and that was the only

11:48 me a big smile she just go up that's your award and I got it and I my family was there my wife and kids and I lost it lost it up there the audience you know just clapped like crazy and um uh I found out later that her best friend was the department faculty lead Maran Pearson Victoria Brody's best friend and so she told her about what happened I think so maybe sympathy points or whatever the wheels a little bit but they thought it was exceptional that I stayed in school and and and graduated character that is exceptional so um so Victoria ended up going to um get her doctorate at Pepperdine and she said she invited me to go get it with her and I said n I'm done with school you know I'll never need a doctorate and she says okay totally totally feel you um the only reason why I'm telling you is cuz I think you have a story to tell and you'd be good with teaching kids
12:39 because I'm getting my doctorate they offered me a a teaching job at CBU as an associate professor um with a promise that I'll finish my doctorate and I think I can get you in and I said man I'm probably not going to get my doctorate my family it already endured me going through a couple years of school and um that was the end of it about a week later I get a call from Maryann Pearson that says we have an opening we'd like you to put in for it uh but we understand that you can't be a professor so put in for teaching assistant and we still want you to be a part of the university and and and in my heart I really wanted to be a part of the University too cuz um the school was just transis from division 2 to division one the athletes there was a buzz around the school we were the f one of the fastest growing universities in the country when I had gone there was about 5,000 students and we're D at least double that size now um so I said yeah
13:29 let's do it I'll I'll be a teaching assistant and um and get I'm still plugged into the school and um you know I'm not I don't have to get my doctorate well as I'm interviewing I get to the vice president of the school for the final interview and says Aram I uh I I like you I think you do really good here but not as a teaching assistant I'm like oh okay maybe security or something I'm G to I'm going to scratch off teaching assistant and move you forward as an adjunct professor wow yeah so I got lucky I mean I got and then I thought maybe one or two years but I loved it so much I've had and and over the years the student athletes have gravitated to my class because a lot of these student athletes have to take online courses and I feel CU because I was a working professional and I know what the difficulty the student athletes must have having to travel Play Sports Rehab train and just so I have a heart for them so I'm very lenient with the hard
