05 Welcome back to another episode of Careful Boys. Nick Dunning is here. He's a personality expert. Wow. That's a new one. I didn't know that about you. I knew about the sexual healer and all the other ones. >> We were just talking about how like Bart went from being the kind of guy that was like craved to be around trouble and then now he's so much more the opposite of like if he senses something doesn't look right, he's not going in there. What other personality traits or just anything about you were completely opposite in the past? The same way that that's now opposite. Like did you have any anything like uh um I guess any features about how you are that were completely 180? Like he jacked off all the time but now he doesn't. Yeah, now I don't do it at >> do you do what were you doing a lot? I think I think that's most of my life though. Like Everything's 180?
55 Everything? A lot of things, yeah. A lot of things 180. Like for instance if I'm thinking about like like the way I look at myself when I was like fighting or trying to fight my mindset was so different back then. Like I can't even imagine putting myself in that same mindset now. So you were a killer back then? >> As far as I wanted like but I think it's for me I think for my own journey was just like uh something that was like kind of itching at you and then you find your peace with it and then it kind of you just relax and you go oh that's not what life is about I guess or whatever. >> You're a warrior. You jacked off all day and fought all day. At the time I You see those pictures of you as a fighter. I guess like the only thing I can go off of is the way you talk about yourself now and you sound so self-aware and you make fun of yourself. When you were a fighter trying to
45 compete, were you taking yourself very seriously? >> Yeah, for sure. So you weren't even making jokes about >> I was making jokes but I thought like you couldn't do that as much like or you shouldn't. Oh, because it's not a champion mentality? I don't even know if it was a championship mentality. It's like you just It was actually the answer is worse. Like you thought you were ████ way sicker than you actually are, you know? >> have to be the survivor. >> Yeah, you kind of And then you look back and me looking back is like, "Oh, damn. Ignorance was bliss a little bit." >> you were pretty tight. >> Yeah, and I wasn't. I wasn't that good at all. But in my head I'm like, "Bro, I'm ████ the man. Like I'll beat this guy up. Woop woop woop woop woop." >> It's just funny to imagine you having that thought now. Yeah, that's a good 180. >> Crazy to think about myself that way, too. But uh That's more in line with being a pumpkin uh pumpkin queen. >> Thank you. You know, pumpkin >> Yes, queen. That's true. But like yeah, it just you think you want like when you I was listening to you guys
35 talk about when you were trying to when you guys were like gang banging and stuff. There was a time when I was in high school, too, where I thought I was a ████ gang banger, too. Cuz I hung out with some dudes that, you know, were blood affiliated and I thought I was like, "Yeah, man. I'm ████ I'm ████ one of the cool guys and ████ you know?" But then you look back at it, I'm like, "Dude, you had If I was like looking back like the way I am now looking at myself in high school, I'd be like, "You're a ████ ████ dude." But everyone feels that way, right? But just the way I thought about things, the way I like thought I had everything figured out is I think 180 now because I definitely feel like a total dumbass. And I feel like I have so much more I'm not even scratching the surface, but back then I thought I was so smart. I thought I had everything figured out, you know?
26 And that is not the case at all. It is really not. So I think in that way I And I think it has to relate with the fighting, just being like wanting to want all the smoke all the time. >> Yeah. >> How much of that personality was there when you had Tiff? I Yeah, I think it was there. So she would be able to also describe how you were back then? But then again, I think in her mind it wasn't as bad as what I'm saying because like I'm internalizing it all. I'm the one like kind of feeling it. And um And Tiff never really kind of saw it outside of me, I guess. Oh, okay. >> never come to the gym and like watch me train or nothing like that. So, she didn't see like >> She got soft Nick. Yeah, I think so. I think so. Got little ████ ass Nick. But I think she could agree with that sentiment of like me thinking I ████ knew everything. And then that
17 me getting like slapped in the face and realizing like, oh yeah, dude, you're not that tight. You have no idea what the ████ you're doing. You're actually wrong, you know? So, I think for me, that's what it was, but I'm going to think on this one. I'm I'm going to be There's sometimes this guy gives me prompts and ████ Where like later after we finish filming, I'm like, damn, I I think about it even more and I go This actually like this, you know? >> the middle of the night, hello. Hey, can we Can we shoot again? Can we reshoot that, please? Okay, thanks, Nick. All right, pal. Whatever, dude. >> Still thinking about it. No, sometimes. Sometimes, for sure. This might be one of them. Yeah, I think it's hard to It's It's very I think we're at the age now where it's kind of we get used to things being 180. I think cuz so many of those things have changed that you don't see them as easily. >> Just with time. Like like the idea is so
07 preposterous of this guy wanting to be around trouble. Yeah. You're the so opposite. Have you even seen that kind of meme that's like people been doing where he's like It'll be like ex- convicts and all these guys and they're like on a computer and then they'll be like, um I used to I was in jail for this many years or whatever. Now I get social anxiety when I go to the supermarket. Or like they'll be like, um They'll be like, uh I used to go out to parties late at night, break into homes and whatever. But I get so I get anxiety when I have to respond to an email. Soft. It's so funny cuz I'm like, that is a funny trend where it's like there are so many millennial guys and gals that went did some crazy ████ and now they're like such different people. They doing normie stuff. It's like I'm
59 getting anxiety. Why? Oh, I have to do a job interview today. And it's like shut the ████ up, dude. >> Even the idea of like having anxiety. >> Yeah. Fake, dude. Also, I think knowing why and then kind of almost like looking back and kind of Mother Teresa-ing yourself. Like I remember a point in time where I wanted all the smoke and then when we got when I got to A&A, like I was like, "Oh, this is perfect. This is like no no adults. It's time to ████ run this place." And then uh when you think back like, "Why? Like why don't I run it for reals and get good SAT scores and get like a good grades, you know?" Like what's like like like trying to get into all these fights and trying to rack up your like fight number on the streets. Like what the what does that prove? But then it just it's just oh, cuz it was like poor poor Bart when he
50 was 10 years old he got bullied so hard that now he feel feels like um he needs to do something to like redeem his manhood back or something, you know? And then you kind of almost feel sorry for yourself and you're able to kind of see through all that ████ You're like, "Oh, dude, you're just the ultimate little b████." You know, you're like you're like that shelter dog that seems aggressive but it's not really aggressive. It's just cuz you got hit by so many people and now you're overly reacting Oh. kind of feel bad, you know? And then now you're like in your healing process and stuff. It's your inner child, dude. You're looking at your inner child. I feel like for for me the 180 was like when I first uh like I wanted an identity so bad. Like you know when you're at that young stage and you see different people. You're like, "That guy's a skater. That guy's this. That guy's that." And you're like, "What do I have? Like what's what
40 I want people to be able to look at me and go, "That guy does this." And I was just like, when I found like breaking, I was like, "Dude, that's the thing. Like, I want to be that." But, I wanted it so ████ bad that like I would always be breaking, even when there's you shouldn't be. Like when? Like at a wedding? >> All the ████ time. No, that's actually more appropriate. But, like anytime like if I was at the mall or if I was just around like if we were just chilling, I'm just always breaking because I was like I just want everyone to know that that's my Yeah, but Yeah, cuz like what if I The insecurity is what gets people to be successful. Yeah, yeah, yeah. >> Like a a guy that's been bullied is makes the greatest fighter cuz they have that ████ chip. They need to feel better and like >> And it's definitely like what it sucks because like that's kind of a like you said, it's a tool to like get there.
30 But, thank god there was no like social media or like recording because like ████ that's so ████ cringe to just always be like always be trying to gather attention to yourself, you know? Like, it's so stupid. But, don't you think it's age-appropriate? It is. Like, you're supposed to be a ████ kid trying to figure things out. >> It is, but the caveat that I would say is that the the more successful version of myself would be doing that around other breakers that were better than me. But, instead, I'm just doing it around normies cuz I want normies to recognize me. I don't want I like I don't want to do it around everybody cuz I might get smoked. I'd rather just do it around people that I can't do it, so they look at me like I'm something great. >> That's like yeah, me getting into a bunch of street fights versus just joining a boxing gym. And actually trying to make it to the Olympics or something. Yeah, channeling it. Yeah, I
21 think that's the part, yeah. Yeah, that's it's like being wanting to be a skater, but you want all your friends to be worse than you. But, you know, that's that's one of the things that's plaguing the generation now is that they're so afraid of being cringe like that that they don't even try. Cuz they don't want to cuz now especially with these phones and everything like they don't to caught doing that. They'd rather just make fun of everyone else doing it. Yeah, and never do it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like you got to be you got to be like at some point I think kids they got to be motivated by a superficial thing and be a little cringe. Yeah. To to to get past a certain point and then you start learning the real ████ >> I think the difference though is that you know like if you're in your early stages don't make a channel all about it yet. Like don't upload everything you do at the lowest level cuz people will make fun of you and you can't be like bullying bullying is like no dude you
13 suck still like just be in the lab let that be for yourself you know. >> Some people just suck forever though. Yeah or they think it's your job to see why it's good. They're like you just don't see mastery yet. You don't you don't recognize genius yet. That's the issue. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For real. But yeah that's the 180 for me is that I went I was obsessed with that ████ though. Like I couldn't think of nothing else. I was like dude I just want everyone to know what I do. I'm the breaker. That's who I am. Yeah well you know when you just want identity so bad you just want to like feel like you belong somewhere amongst like you know a bunch of hundreds of kids trying to find themselves it's tough. That feeling is so important though. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz you're kind of finding out who you are and until you do cringe ████ you don't know what you're made of. Isn't that like like it's kind of like the it's kind of like the necessary evil. It's like people that never do
03 cringe ████ and then they don't try anything. They just go throughout life and then they'll probably regret it at the end. Versus someone who's been through the cringe ████ and then they're like yeah I ████ feel so embarrassed of my past self but I'm glad I did it cuz now I'm here. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which I don't know if that applies. The funny thing is that I think like for something like breaking which is something that is kind of on you to get better at it it really isn't one of those things like let's say cuz I was also doing piano at the same time but I'm doing all recitals. Recitals is a great way to get better and better at something without looking like you're trying to show off cuz everyone has to do that. >> Oh, it's appropriate. >> breaking it's all on you. So, you you choose where you do it. You choose when you do it. But, I think like for for music, that's a really great way for kids to not only get an identity, but also refine a skill that they're not
53 constantly showing everyone cuz it is secret in a way. I mean, no one's at that rehearsal that's there to watch it. Like, you're just waiting to go up yourself. So, it's kind of like without realizing it, you end up at a proficiency level that you're like, "Oh, dude, if this was like" You know when adults try to learn music? They can't stop ████ showing everybody. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's like >> Cut it out. >> when you're a kid, you go 8 years, no one even knows until they go to your house. There's something different about that. Be cringey.
