00 [Music] Welcome back to another episode of Careful Boys. We're here to ask Steve the burning question. >> Oh jeez. >> Is Vegas really dying? >> Oh Jesus. >> As a local. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. What are you seeing? >> Look, what I see is I see people talking about tourism, right? >> Yeah. >> And people talking about, you know, Yes. Like Vegas screwed up a couple things, right? So, and this is just my familiarity of the local area and what everyone talks about. Okay. But they overcharge for everything now. They they you can't get free parking anymore. They consider free parking a perk now. Like you have to have like a a membership or like a credit card. Like me and Nikki have like a Caesar's credit card, right? >> And we put a lot of stuff on that. And like one of the perks is free parking. >> Wow. >> Like how lame is that? >> That's pretty lame. >> But doing the airline model, dude.
50 >> Right. It used to be everything was free parking and now like free parking is a perk. Are you >> valet used to be free? Remember we could pull up? I I remember um yeah I could and this was like 2016. This wasn't long time ago. Like we could pull up and then a valet would come and then like you just give them like five bucks. You just tip them. Everything was it. Yeah. >> So now I have to have this Caesars card and thanks to people like you I know about all the perks and stuff and and one of the perks for that is I get free valet but like we we we put like a lot on there bro. So like >> a casino member. So, what they're trying to do is, so this is what I heard is that when people go out of town, locals, um, you get 24-hour security at the at the parking lots, right? So, they would just leave their car there >> cuz you get free shuttle to the airport. So, they would take the shuttle, go to
41 the airport, and then so their parking lots would just get really packed with local guys that don't want to leave their car at home or in a dangerous area. >> Yeah. Hm. >> And I I guess there's just like a lot of stuff like that. But once the corporations took over though, I think it's been like nickel and dimming the whole >> dude. After co I feel like they started nickeling and dimming everything and they raised the price. Like even just if you want to get a drink on the strip, it's probably going to be like $21. Like you know what I mean? Like at any of the hotels like it's going to be probably 20 bucks. >> But you know why though? It's because uh gambling's down. Like all all like gambling's up in America cuz people are able to do it online, >> but Vegas is down and so is Jersey. >> Table games are down. Yeah. All that stuff. For sure. No, but the one of the things that is getting talked about a lot is people are talking about how there's less international tourism to
32 Vegas, right? Because like I guess Canada stopped coming here because of tariff stuff or whatever. But for some reason at the same time, Mexico started increasing their visit. >> Yeah. more people started coming from Mexico to Vegas for some reason. Who the hell knows why? Vegas is fun. We all know that. But like I guess they don't know that they're going to get ████ when they get there because >> like all the table games are high now. All the minimums are high. >> The ratios suck. >> There's no incentive to >> after co they they they're just trying to get their money back cuz they lost a s███████ during CO, right? And so but they're just nickel and diamond everybody and making it not fun. I saw the breakdown of those bills like when you have a stay at a hotel and it said like you have the um the room fee and then there's a tax on that and then the resort fees there and there's a separate tax on the resort fee. It's not like together cuz like I um when I was going there a lot I get like perks and stuff
22 right back then it truly was a free hotel room like if anything maybe like 10 20 bucks and then during co I was able to use some of those perks and then I'm like yeah I still get a free room for 30 bucks cuz I pay the taxes but now it's not it's not like that. >> So there's so the main reason why tourism's down is just people are being priced out of experiencing >> Yeah absolutely. I think I think as I think they they they came here the past couple years after co and they were all excited to come to Vegas and they realized just getting absolutely slam ████ >> I even asked Chad GBT they said that's one of the main reasons is the Vegas isn't the lowcost funtime place that it used to be >> because like I remember everyone talking about the buffets cuz it's like you pay 10 bucks and you can eat like a king right when the buffet >> now it's like $70 $80. Right.
13 >> Exactly. a person. Yeah. >> Damn. I never went when it was 10 bucks. >> I think I saw blame you guys because you guys are the one always wanting to move there and ████ So, hella California ████ there. >> Telling everybody to move there. >> You don't go. What does it have to do with the tourism? >> We don't go to the strip, brother. >> It's you guys. >> They're not They're not touris. >> Nobody's touris tourisming into Summerland. >> It's like saying that that rock. >> They took it serious. >> They take my That's like someone someone living in OC affects the value of Hollywood and Highlands. >> I'm just playing. Um, >> another thing is the whales down. The >> whale um like the biggest uh money makers for casinos are the millionaires and the high rollers because they spend, right? And they make the it's like the 8020 rule. They're the they're the biggest spenders. That's Yeah. But what ended up happening is um a lot of Asia used to
05 come and play. >> But when they built their like Venetian and wind, they have their own properties in Macau. Uh, so they just were like, "Why do I fly all the way to Vegas when I can just play right here?" >> This is cooler. >> Yeah. So the brands, like the Venetian brand or whatever, they're making a ton of money, but not in America. They're making it like overseas. Yeah. >> So that's one. >> Oh, so they're not >> the the Venetian that's happening in Asia has no downturn at all. Like they're not >> No, they're up. >> Oh, wow. >> So all the Yeah. So like when all these guys that decided to replicate their hotel and then build it like overseas, >> they're thriving. And I think that's what subsidized their Vegas operation. So the Vegas operation, it just been on a decline since um what do you call it 2008? >> But are people also having personal
56 economic decline which is why they're not even prompt to like >> always? Yeah, I think always >> because it's like the combination of the two, right? people are not doing as well. And then also you don't get a good deal. >> I think it's the good deal cuz I'd rather just spend my money somewhere else if I know I'm going to get absolutely wrecked, right? >> You know, like like um even me, I have a fantasy football group that I've had forever. I've talked about them here a bunch and we're all going to go to Austin this year. It's not really necessarily cuz like we did it in Vegas last year. We did our draft like live in Vegas. It was really fun. But like we had hookups and stuff like that, but even then you just every time I'm going to get something or anywhere, I'm like, damn, it's just so expensive down here. Why don't we just go back to Summerland? It' be way cheaper. So, so now like we're going to go to Austin, which isn't even the cheapest place ever, but my buddy has a place there and like there's hookups and stuff, but it's like >> it just sucks that I can't look at Vegas, like go to the strip and like just have a blast with my friends and not even worry about it, right? Like
46 it's just too you're just getting too wrecked, you know? >> Yeah. >> And if you've already done it before, why do it again? >> Right. Exactly. >> But that's I think that was the whole allure of Vegas, though, is you go there and everything is cheap. Mhm. >> Because you have more money to gamble. >> Yeah. We always used to talk about how you're getting free stuff. I got this for free. I got that. They gave me a buffet or whatever the hell. And now you don't hear that anymore. >> No. What about the um what do you think about the situation where there's like such a huge inventory of houses on the market right now and like a lot of them are being sold. >> Yeah, it's a definitely a buyer market right now. Like that's the whole word. And I'm not Bart so, you know, I'm not going to sit here and talk your head off about real estate. >> Well, Bart had a good point of view. He was saying that like for houses that are really good, there's no problem. He was saying that like for like cuz he's trying to get houses and he can't even get them. Like he's getting out bid like
36 three houses in a row >> on the stuff that's like actually uh >> can he like buy a couple of cameras before he buys a house now. >> Just like three cameras and then he could buy a house. >> He said he could after September. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. >> Three cameras. That's all I want. >> But who's like all of a sudden selling all these houses? Are they like do you think that's more of like private? >> So my buddy who does this, you know that um so he he was saying that like >> the gay the gay dude, right? >> The gay guy. Yeah. Big time gay guy. Gay ████ >> Is that the one that >> he throws? >> Yeah. He grabs grab reaches for dicks all the time. >> He pretends that he's blind at the gym, but he's just really touching dicks. Yeah. No, but he was talking he's trying to sell a bunch of stuff, but he's been selling stuff like it's not really, you know, look, there's a lot of talk about it cuz there's a lot of excess inventory that's not being sold, but there's there's also just a lot of competition. >> I mean, according to the people there
26 and if they've been there for like over a decade, they're like, "No, it's still not enough inventory." >> Yeah, I kind >> So, like it it depends cuz I don't know what the motive is for people reporting these things. It could be for different reasons. Look, as long as interest rates stay where they are, I'm not exactly blown away that people aren't buying, right? Like if Nick wants to buy a house right now, like the the interest rates are just >> Yeah. It's like 9% or something. It's up there. >> It's five something, I think. But it's crazy. >> I thought it was at like less than seven. Like seven is like a good deal nowadays. >> Yeah. Right. >> Which is crazy. >> It's at 9. >> Seven and nine. >> Five something. >> Oh, five something. >> I think it's seven and a >> very big difference. I think so. Nine. >> It was at five9. I'm going to use my military benefit. >> Point at him. >> Well, depending on your credit, depending on >> 5.25. >> Yeah, >> you're right. >> Yes. >> I'll think about personal loan.
16 >> Do I get three three cameras now? >> Yeah. >> That you can buy with a 5% loan. >> What do you think? Like if they had to employ some kind of measure to like rapidly try to fix this problem, what would you suggest? >> Build. >> Seriously? Yeah. Build. Like because I I think everybody out there wants to buy a house, but there's there's all kinds of ████ reasons why they're not building. Look at what's going on right now in in the Palisades. Like they're not rebuilding any of that stuff. >> I think they need to build within two. >> They're going to do low income housing over there. >> I heard that. They just passed that. I'm just >> pretty quick. They're going to turn into a low income. >> A certain section of it. They're turning into a low low income. >> A lot of people were up in arms about it. They were pretty pissed. >> But I don't know though because it's Palisades. Um, it's palisade zip code, but that's the front. Like they they say low income, right? And then they'll get the government to fund their real estate
06 project. >> It becomes luxury. >> Exactly. That's they always do that ████ >> It's like it's not true low income. >> They never they never are low income. Um, I think they need to build single family homes that are in the 2300 range. So like >> now, okay, 5 years ago, same exact homes were like 1 to 200. >> Yeah. >> Now those homes are like 4 to 500. But how do you do that? >> How do you build a a house at that value in in in LA? >> No, no, in um in Vegas. >> Oh, in Vegas. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. Palisades, it's just going to be hella expensive. It's just a good zip code. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. >> But in Vegas, I think it's still doable because if you think about the average size of homes, they're they're big. Like the newer homes, they're all built big. Yeah. Yeah. >> I got to say, dude, I don't like the new new development stuff. Like every house
56 on top of each other. You're it through your window is your neighbor's wall >> or cinder block walls. They all look the same. >> They all look Yeah, that's what kills so close together. >> Like I like having a yard. Like I have a whole ass yard and then there's my neighbor's house, you know? Like and all and all our stuff in our area, it's all built on a slope. So like even like in my backyard, my neighbor's house is like down. >> Yeah. It was thought out for space, not like we got to maximize the square footage and make sure that we get them we squeezing the most out of these people. Like, you know what I mean? Like the Black Rock thing. >> They really put a lot of good thought into that whole community. It's crazy that like like you have like a back wall to the street, but the no one can jump it because the your house is like 30 ft down from that wall. Like on this side, it's normal. And then you look over it's like your house is way the ████ down here. >> You're breaking your ankle. ████ I mean, where you guys are at, is that a
48 late 90s build or what is it? Like a early >> 90s. A lot of trees, huh? >> Yeah. A lot of mature landscaping. Like full-blown palm trees everywhere. Like that's what I'm talking about. >> That's what Vegas needs. They need more trees. >> That's what I think too. >> Cuz when I look at the new development, well, in my area, there's hella trees. Like in our area, but like when I go to like where Bart is looking at building places, like the palm trees like this high. >> It's just like one. >> You just got there. >> I know. And like the bushes are like this big. like tomato size. That's what I say to Bart to survive. >> When I want to dunk on Bart's property, I'm like, "Look at these ████ trees." >> You guys, saplings, >> bushes. Can't buy a mature palm tree. >> Yeah, come on. >> What's a What's a um a measure they can do >> to help alleviate the tourism struggles >> if they have to do something like >> What am I a ████ land manager now? >> What are you doing?
38 >> Steve, tell us the answers like the last like 13 years on. No ideas >> about what? >> About the problem with tourism? >> More titties. >> Yeah, lower all the prices and give ████ away for free. >> But they have to raise the prices cuz they're losing money. >> More free drinks, dude. >> Well, right. But but that's like you you have to start somewhere. You have to give incentive for people to come to your place. Joe knows this. He's just joking. Yeah, look how you win. >> I started to become a land manager for >> just Joe brought it out of you instantly. >> Influencers. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Influencers. >> We need more influencers. >> Vegas influenc >> cuz it's their job to influence. >> Throw them all into it. >> We need more influencers. >> They're influencing incorrectly most of the time. >> I actually think it's not >> streamers influencing off a cliff. Dude, they're they're actually doing a good
28 job working with influencers in the casinos, like the gambling side, because for a long time they were not chill with that. But now they have like streaming rooms for poker players. They have like guys come. There's this one guy, I think his name is like Vegas Mike or Vegas Matt >> and I can watch his videos just ████ playing slots. >> Yeah, dude. It's ████ fun. >> Well, that's like >> he's just burning like 50 grand. I'm like I'm like that's how you do it, baby. Yeah, the move of them allowing that was really it had to happen because otherwise they were going to lose to all the online guys. >> Yeah, I know. >> Streamers typically are like they're basically shilling an online platform. They're not showing. >> It was bound to happen, but now they're doing a good job actually like merging the two. >> And I it's and it's fun and I go, okay, I uh I want to go and gamble myself.
18 >> Do they do the thing where it's like they're not playing with real money. They're pay playing with like fake ████ to like get people. >> I don't I think Vegas Matt's an absolute cocaine using psychopath. Like, and I say that with all respect. Truly, I mean that. >> In the best way possible. >> In the best way possible. But like to me, like playing slots the way this cat plays slots is like, have you ever seen that meme of of Steph Curry on the moon and he's taking a shot? Like it's just like you have no shot, brother. Like watching this guy, I'm like, dude, he's just burning 100 grand, 150 grand, and then he'll pop real quick for 25 and he's like, "Let's go, boys." And you're just like, >> he has high energy again. I don't know how I could just sit there. I would just be losing my ████ >> That's what I love with the game.
