00 [Music] all right take a look at this and uh just tell me what you think of it do you know what that is is it cake is that oh is that like sushi it's like sushi it actually is Sushi or no a little different all you can eat crab roll it's it's Australian sushi have you ever seen it before the one you were talking about it's its own thing it just looks like rolls it looks like rolls that they didn't chop yeah exactly yeah so that's what they are so yeah that bottom left one looks like K poop at the bottom yeah the um that's Australian Sushi which is um like if you guys have ever been there it's it's kind of like it doesn't compete with like omast or anything like that it's not like a fine thing it's just like a walkway snack and there's tons of these stalls uh like in the city and you just walk up they're super cheap

51 it looks good yeah and then they have like uh it's not always like raw fish it's like cooked chicken teriyaki chicken terak beef oh so it's like a a Spam musubi but with other ████ exactly yeah it's more like that so just to give a little bit of a history of it it's um yeah looks like an uncut Tamaki roll is that how Tamaki yeah yeah Japanese he was still in Korean mode I was literally thinking about kimbop cuz Bart said it and I was like damn man how do they get that Sesame tast and ████ yeah Joe teleported somewhere else he's like a Korean one how they get the when you started say cop I was like man David's mom made some really fireworks he had that thing you know when dogs look to the side you had that same so like the way that it started is uh in Australia in

43 Melbourne there's a guy named Toshi Hiro shindo he made a stall called Sushi Jin and uh he adapted Sushi into Australian taste by making it with cooked meats oh that's like the dudes out here that made the California Philadelphia like all that ████ it's like that and then um that was in 19 95 and uh he never wanted a franchise so instead he just sold his entire business but during that span a lot of other competition popped up to do the same exact thing and before you knew it they had Australian Sushi was like a thing and people always used to tell me about that and I didn't know what they were talking about and then when I went out there it's so good what's the difference it's just not that much of a difference yeah it's just it's just like having a really quick uh you know because it's it's not all raw fish it's like oh okay so you could get like KATU or like yeah there's fried like chicken in it

33 what's your favorite one in the middle I think the Teryaki salmon it's probably one of my favorite that's such a good easy snack to yeah yeah yeah I would eat it all the like a lot so is it like cuz it's super cheap is it it's all exposed to the elements right so is it like covered in dust and ████ it's behind it's behind like a glass it's exposed to the element make it sound like a freaking statue with the park you know what I think you know what I think would be bomb if there was chili cheese fries in the middle of it oh yeah put you create whatever you want some addons people be doing they do wild so it's basically just cawe rice and then whatever the ████ size yeah so the Japanese burrito the question that I wanted to ask you guys is do you feel like that's appropriation in any way nah bro it was made by a Japanese guy that's true originally it was now anybody does it out there I don't I

24 don't know cuz like even California Philadelphia all those things are made by a Japanese je that was like oh we have these uh guys are from a Hollywood and they don't like it if anything more of our own culture should appropriate our own stuff you know like like all the fusion and weird stuff is always coming from like some other culture but you should just flip your own stuff you know like that's what he did that's good like the California worldle was made because like let's say a group of guys coming in and and maybe one guy just doesn't want to eat the sushi or whatever so they'll make some entry level yeah and then they made it to progress to the uh Nigi like just the S it's a Gateway roll yeah so it's like California and then you go Philadelphia and then you you go crazy or whatever

16 yeah totally and you go all the way to the end where you're like all right I'm ready I'm going to do it now Sashimi you know so I'm going to tell you guys a story real quick we didn't get to cover this cuz it happened during an in between um era that we were like not filming but last year it an Australian woman came to New York and opened one of these Australian style sushi places and uh she got put on blast basically I read about you remember that yeah in New York yeah this was last year New York got some pretentious Foodies though but it wasn't it wasn't even New York it was some Puerto Rican guy like a chef guy who like basically like blasted her on Twitter so Puerto Rican guy was like this is not even authentic yeah he was a chef and he he called her he called her a colonizer and like made this big like initiative to like try to cancel her and all this ████ and then um and then it really did work all these people were like one starring it on Google reviews and ████ it's ████ up yeah and then

06 but then they found out later that this Puerto Rican Chef Guy uh actually had his own Japanese fusion restaurant ████ oh what really yeah that maybe that's why he was pissed cuz his Fusion ████ sucks well so they found out that he makes sushi too and pasta and all this other ████ that you know and he's and in at his dining experience he had a popup that was 750 bucks where whereas this this Australian woman's roles are 3 for 12 and they're totally like a different idea but since then all these people came through and and supported her and her reviews are back up to like 4.5 Stars you know who she needs to collaborate with that one Japanese dude that goes I like sushi oh I like sushi and he wear like Samurai ████ and he has like ████ corn rolls he's always next to like a gold Mercedes

58 I do think it is a little bit funny for like what what ethnic group is she in she's white a white girl to like go to New York to like open up Australian Sushi like you are kind of in a a confusing territory you know what I mean uh I'm not saying it's wrong or anything but it's just like that's Optics of it and it's in New York too you know what I'm saying so it's like it's almost like you're you're not bringing just the wrong food in there you're also just going into a Battleground I don't I don't think there's anything wrong with it I just think like all it takes one person to paintt it into like a weird thing you know which is like ████ up nowadays that's how it is but it's like dude there's like people of color who make Trash food all the time there's Asian dudes in K Town who make Trash Sushi or or trash Korean food you know it's like that doesn't give you a pass that your thing is more authentic yeah

50 yeah yeah yeah cuz I was thinking about that too when um you know like Ivan Orin or like the the guy he went to Japan he studied there he won awards in Japan for ramen he opened up his own shop locals love it there and I was thinking about it I was like all right if this Jewish dude opened up in Little Tokyo right and people don't know what he's done and I open up right next to him and let's just say I crack some Nong shim out and like boil it and then just be like man hard to beat though people are going to look at me and go oh that's authentic and I'm like I was born in La I don't ████ know any of that ████ in Japan this guy actually studied in Japan he did and then he comes up and people might be like you you ████ Jewish colonizer you know they might look at him like that but his due diligence was on point yeah but he actually learned the real ████ and what I did is I grabed some ████ Top Ramen couple noodles I just

41 threw it in a bowl and you know like that guy's Japanese and then yeah people were like oh he's authentic I would still buy from you I would still buy from you 100% support you guy shouldn't have been white like man this tastes like something I grew up with like I just don't know what it is it's like yeah so it's it's an interesting thing um because again like it's it's a thing that I would love to have Australian Sushi here but it's a thing that no one's really going to make unless you know they want to deal with the brunt cuz a Japanese guy here isn't going to do that it's a maybe should specific Australian it's also just widely understood and called Australian Sushi yeah no the the place itself is just called like I think it's just called it just has another name it's like a handoll spot Market it's me obvious it's not supposed to be omaz I don't think like PE I don't know it's weird man in

31 Asia they don't really get all bent up about this ████ I think it's very American cuz isn't there a thing where Japanese like I forgot some sushi like high up dude was like yeah every country has their own version of sushi it's not Japanese sushi if they're getting it in Brazil or wherever it's like everyone's allowed to have their own version they I mean like food is like everyone learns and gets inspired from each other right cuz like a lot of uh people in Asia like from Korea Japan like they go to Europe to study how to make macaroons how to make coffee whatever and then they bring it back to Asia bring it back and they open up European Concepts all the time so I'm like why is it we're importing hella spices but you don't see a french guy going like that this not the macaroon maybe they do but it's like they're they're still not like that's the pride of France I don't know I think

21 as long as you call it a macaroon it's like you get it it's like even to call it Australian Sushi you're still calling it Sushi you know where it's ████ you change the name if you were to make sushi and call it something else I don't know like whatever the ████ you know then you'd be like Wait no that's Sushi you trip out because it's like not you got to be prepared for how you come out the gates too though like if she if she's going to do sushi like don't the first picture shouldn't be you in front of a sushi thing and you're like a white girl in the thing I'm just saying people will judge you by that you know what I'm saying like people always going to judge off of Optics like if you saw like a black rapper and Asian rapper and you had to choose one to listen to on an island the black one yeah that's true that's what I'm saying like you're automatically assuming off of that right before trying to food before even listening to the music or whatever like

11 there is going to be that I've understood that too as a rapper like hopping on stage you know at first I was like I don't want to be judged as just an Asian rapper I want respect as a rapper but it's like n people are going to see that part like I hop on stage the first thing you're going to be like he looks lyrical now be like he's Asian ████ on stage you so there is a huge part of that when I walk into a sushi restaurant and there's a Mexican Chef on the back I'm like be good like a s guarantee with Chinese but with Chinese it's like I don't know about this one every Panda Express got a Mexican guy in the back yeah I hope the lines go down a little bit cuz I feel like we just to think about what we might have missed out on because someone didn't think it was their place to you know what's weird is like okay when it comes to food it gets really touchy like this but then no one's getting mad at

01 Brazilian jiu-jitsu and I see parallels here like Brazilian jiu-jitsu is Top by Japanese family to a Brazilian family and then they took it on and then they made it their own and so no one's like that's appropriation colonization this is the same ████ a Japanese dude invented it taught other people or whatever and they got inspired by what he did and then so why is that not Australian Sushi wait that's a good comparison I like what you're saying there why do you think that they're not getting as much criticism on it's hard maybe because Brazil isn't traditionally looked upon as like a European nation yeah or if you talk ████ they just beat you up yeah maybe in martial arts too like everyone's it feels more lateral everyone's learning from each other like mix martial arts is literally like even Bruce Lee like he got his kicks from

51 like taekwon doe and karate and other things and he brought it together it's not purely Kung Fu so maybe there's just all these like maybe it's more adop like adaptable but food is more like this is me my culture I grew up on this ████ you're not going to be more authentic than me maybe I don't know do you feel like also they just have given so much respect to the older traditional martial arts could before like transitioning into its own thing but even in the martial arts world people are always bickering about like the same type of ████ really just the voices are a little bit like louder on social media there's a point to that too it's like it's like you call it Brazilian juic people like kind of give you the eyebrow and then the Brazilian jiu-jitsu guy like gets a championship and then you're like all right well there's something there that worked maybe there's not as much like Championship type stuff in like yeah like Australian Sushi isn't better than

41 traditional it's not like there's a clear pedestal and then on the Japanese folks to be like yo what the ████ did you guys do you guys stole our ████ it's on the Japanese folks to do that and they don't do that they don't do it they don't care it's your guys's fault Jo it's the opposite like pretty good for that though exactly they want people to wear kimonos they want people to love chos the Japanese CH low riders remember that um there was that there was that uh that that game company Ubisoft or some ████ like that remember that um but there was there was a game that was debuting and they had a bunch of dudes playing Tao right drums and it was this white dude um and then hella comments were like they couldn't get a Japanese guy for this ████ and it's like he's famous in Japan you ████ ████ like he's a celebrity

32 man for the drums it's like what are you ████ talking about it's so stupid it's like yo-yo M playing like they couldn't get a European on that cello exactly yeah it's like what do you oh my God people are so stupid right right yeah that's what happens when you allow comments to be public [Music]
