00 So, one Asian culture thing that I'm going to be getting rid of, for sure, is the child abuse. That's good. >> Boo. >> What? You want to whoop your kids' ass? >> Boo. I just said boo because I like saying the word, okay? Boo. >> Boo how. Boo how. Right? >> Boo how. Right? >> Boo how. >> Okay. Okay. Yeah. >> Child abuse boo how, which means not good. >> Thank you. Boo means no. >> So, growing up as a kid in a Asian child in a Asian family, all I ever did was get my ass beat. And even the times that I found some sort of discrepancy with my mom, I would try to reason with her. She used to say this proverb, uh "Tin sha something boo soo the foo moo." You ever heard that? >> It's Chinese. >> Tin sha zhi you mama how. >> Yeah, that means lucky number 15. >> But pretty much the translation is uh under the heavens uh parents are never wrong.

50 >> Woah. >> So, no matter what, even if I proved her 100% wrong, she's like, "Because everything starts with my intention of being a good mom. So, that intention is most important. So, even though if I ████ up for beating your ass because my intentions were good, that ass beating was still warranted." >> Mhm. >> You guys have proverbs like that at home? >> Yeah. >> I don't know. That seems like a really convenient proverb. >> I think >> Is that Chinese? >> Built-in, dude. >> Chinese. >> They're smart. >> Our proverb is like under my roof. >> Yeah, same ████ right? My house, my rules, brother. >> But this is the under the heavenly skies. >> Under the heavens, bro? You can't >> Under the heavenly skies. >> Yeah. >> [laughter] >> So, you're going to reason with Taika Waititi? You're not going to just be like, "Cuz I said so, fool." >> Cuz that's American one. >> No, I I reason with them pretty I mean, there's obviously like you know, like in

40 anything you learn from math to guitar playing to martial arts, whatever, there's rules that you blindly obey. And then once you know the rules, I think that's when you can start adjusting. So, there are non-negotiable rules. But then from there, if I ████ up, I will 100% acknowledge. >> That's so nice. >> Have you ever negotiated with Ty Cobb with a non-negotiable? >> No, those ones are non-negotiable. >> Oh, not one time? >> No, those are non-negotiable. He tries to though. >> Okay. >> That's when you have to go, "What the ████ did I say?" And then he's like, "Okay." Then he knows I'm not ████ around. >> Wait, are you serious? >> Yeah. I'm like, yeah, I go, "What the ████ did I I I don't yell. I go, "What the ████ did I say?" >> Oh, so with the soft voice? Does that get his attention more or something? >> Oh, yeah. Cuz he Cuz he knows I'm not ████ around because at home he also goes, "Mommy yells all the time and Papa never yells." And I'm like, "It's cuz your mommy's Latina and your papa has it

30 under control." But I do cuss. >> [laughter] >> I I I do I do cuss, but I never raise my voice at him. >> That's Ty Cobb. >> Yeah. >> I can't wait to be like, "SHUT THE ████ UP!" >> CIGARETTE DAD IS COOL dad though. >> I've I've never I don't even smoke. I have to pick up smoking first and then I can >> [laughter] >> and then I could do that. >> I think Jason probably would be like not hit the kid. >> Not hit the kid guy? >> You're going to stop the tradition? >> I It's okay to hit a kid if it's a boy though. >> Yeah. Girls are so hard, man. >> Yeah. >> So, what do you do? Buy Buy her more things? >> You make them flinch. You get them like that. >> No, um You You hold them. You hold their face. >> What is it about having a daughter that

20 you're just like, "I can't discipline." Too cute? >> What is a girl though, you know? Like a girl I feel like um they just could they could do stuff. >> It's fine. >> What's the What's the most recent biggest no-no she did and how did you how did you deal with that? >> I I'm going to tell you I'm going to tell you the truth. I abuse her. >> [laughter] >> What the ████ What do you do though? >> Let Let me tell you something. This is This This is the This is how I abuse it, okay? That's That's the truth. >> You said it. >> [laughter] >> You just said it. >> Cuz I'm giving that energy to you so you could do it to your daughter. >> It's called what cultural values are we ditching and you're like I hit her. >> [laughter] >> I'm sorry. >> you why I abuse her. >> Okay. >> Now you have to tell us. >> With um I'll get but that that this is not following the prompt though. >> It's okay, just tell the truth. Tell your story. That's the most important. >> This is your story. >> In the beginning of our relationship,

12 which is when she was born till 1 and 1/2 uh if she does a thing that like it's really if she's just trying to throw a thing or whatever like water juice or like pasta sauce onto the bed >> Mhm. >> I go you don't please don't do that because I'm not Bro, you're in >> Why is she with the pot just ready to [laughter] ████ just throw it on the bed? >> She's really excited to learn how to cook, man. All right? >> In the bedroom? >> How many times you going to interrupt my story? >> Wait, do you have a mattress in the kitchen? >> He's an interruptor. >> He just interrupted. >> I know but he's going to choke me and stuff. >> [laughter] >> Just go, just go. >> Okay, the uh So if they do if she does a a thing that I don't like um and I would remind her nicely and I'll go hey please don't do this and then hey don't do that you can't because it's going to get dirty. I

02 try to give her a reason. And if I do it three, four, five times and she doesn't I go okay if you can do it but if you do it and it gets messy then I'm going to have to hold your arms and you can't go anywhere for a little bit. >> That's normal. >> What do you mean? You just hold her like this for like 5 minutes? >> No, no, no. 5 I don't have patience with that. But for like 30 seconds to like a minute she doesn't like it cuz she can't go anywhere. And I I did that from like when she was 1 and 1/2 to 2. And then now I I now there's reason now she'll do something that I don't like [snorts] and I'll go hey you can't do that. And I'll do it like two, three times and then she does it again I'll go I'll go okay I already told you if you do that it's okay but I'm going to hold your arm if you do it again. You could do it but I'll hold your arm. And usually she never does it. She'll just >> Aw, she's such a good kid. >> Yeah. Learns fast. >> So, if she does something bad, she gets

53 extra attention from her father for a little while? >> That's when I um take her out of the basement when um >> [laughter] >> I unlock her cuffs. >> But, those are the only times. Yeah. So. >> How's that abusive? >> I feel really bad because you know how many parents right now that will hear and go, "You hold your child?" >> Oh, yeah. >> Well, the soft ass parents >> these days. >> You talking about the gentle parenting people? >> There's so many. >> Yeah, right now the whole parenting movement is you can't tell your kids no. If you say no, yeah, if you say no, it's supposed to like supposed to traumatize their brain. >> It's the gentle parenting people. >> But, that's you're only supposed to like like guide and like move or like >> you telling never telling your kid no is way worse than if they got beat, probably. >> ████ yeah. >> All right. >> You think they're from our generation, they got ████ up, they don't want to continue, so that's why that's that kind

44 of parent? Or like I'm like I can't wait till it's my turn and I can ████ up my kids like my dad did to me. >> My brother-in-law never got beat. He's Filipino kid, half Filipino kid, and he does gentle parenting with his little ████ and it's the worst thing I've ever seen. >> Worst thing? >> Ever. >> never got beat? So, why the ████ is he gentle parent? >> That's what I'm saying. I I don't know how >> Was he gentle parented? >> No, his dad was like a yeller for sure, but like not a beater. >> So, maybe violence was words to him. >> I think so. >> But, that means go just go back to beating then. >> But, he does like the whole like tell me about what you're feeling all the ████ and the kid could be screaming his head off and ████ and it's just the most annoying obnoxious ████ >> What do you think guys think Would you Do you think ditching beating is good or not? >> Hell, yeah. I used to think nah. But, like now I'm just like >> Don't beat? >> Look at how awesome we all turned out. >> No, he's for beating. >> I am for beating. I'm continuing the

34 culture, dude. >> Okay, but how hard is beating though? Like what what what's your definition of >> Whatever I feel like. If I'm mad, I'mma beat harder. If I'm [laughter] relaxed, I'm going to beat smarter. >> What about a daughter? >> Oh, I can't do that. >> What about the boxing gloves? >> They're too cute. >> And headgear. >> Yeah. >> [laughter] >> Sanction. I want to teach my daughter how to beat. >> Put your mouthpiece in means like yeah, get ready. >> I feel like I'll beat myself. >> Crazy. >> So then like if I have a daughter she does something bad I punch myself and then she's going to be like, "Oh, I feel so bad." I'm like, "That's right cuz you got to get them in the heart." >> so I do believe in physical in physical discipline. One thing I really like shout outs to coach Powell. One time I went to go check up on Tyga and his jujitsu class and he was getting mauled. Like this kid that was probably like 30 to 50 pounds heavier just on top of him just

25 straight like smothering him and you could just see him feeling like he's drowning and he's just crying cuz he's helpless. He's been there for probably like 10 15 minutes couldn't get out. All the other kids already moving on to the other exercises and he's just getting absolutely destroyed, right? I'm looking at him like, "Okay, he probably deserved it." The coach comes out and then I think he noticed that I've been watching and probably he gets a little bit defensive cuz you know a lot of parents would be against what he was doing. He goes, "Hey man, sorry I had to do that but Tyga was not listening to the move of the day so I did I told the other kids to do the counter to the move of the day. If he would have paid attention he would know how to get out but he didn't pay attention so that's what he >> So let him get his ass beat. >> Let him get his ass beat and I was like, "Dude, I was like can you do this every day?" >> [laughter] >> Every day, please. >> Does it hurt you though? >> ████ no. Cuz like you know I think every

17 parent you want to spoil the ████ out of your kids, right? >> Yeah. >> So like if I don't have to be the bad guy, that's amazing. I'd rather go teacher, ████ his ass up. Oh, come back to papa. What tell papa everything that happened. >> [laughter] >> I get a perfect kid dog, right? >> Built in. Good guy good cop bad cop. >> Right yeah, like you send your you send your dog to Cesar Millan. Cesar Millan could be the big mean guy. Then you come back you're like, "Good puppy. Good puppy." >> [laughter] >> Growing up, my grandparents house was like the most boring house in the world. And culturally, I would love to make it more fun if possible. Because like we for example anytime that we found something fun to do at grandma's house, they would take it away. >> What? >> They hated your joy? >> I think that they just were like, "Nah, kids should not be having fun here."

08 >> What if it was >> Cuz my grandpa's a marine. >> What if it was something you made up? Like you like dug a hole in the ground and you were throwing sticks in it. Like it's not >> Next time we came there, the shovel would be gone. >> [laughter] >> You know what I mean? Like we like The greatest summer of our lives at grandma's house is when we found out that grandpa has an old Galaga machine. Like an actual Galaga arcade tabletop machine. >> Wow. >> And we plugged that ████ in and we played it for like a month and a half. And then one day we go there and it's gone and we're like, "Where's the Galaga machine? Holy ████ I've been bragging about it to my friends all this s███." And they're like, "Oh, it's at Uncle Mark's ranch now." And it just They put it in a barn and put a blanket over it and it's still there right now. >> Oh, wow. >> So like we had a fun thing and they took the fun thing away. So like old people's houses don't have to be the most boring ████ ever. >> [laughter] >> You know what's pretty funny that you said that? In the Marine Corps, at least in the training environment, there is a phrase it's called secure the fun.

59 Which means you get the fun the ████ out of the room. >> Secure the fun? [laughter] >> Yeah, dude. The fun got sent to Afghanistan, bro. >> So if you have a bunch of dudes People are are obedient. They're not doing anything wrong, but if they see smiles, secure the fun right ████ now. Everyone's like, "Oh, s███." Put the ████ fun away. That's what your grandpa was doing. >> Yeah, he was securing the fun. And then [laughter] And then by the way, the only So we had two we had two options. You could either go watch TV with my grandma. She's watching Fox ████ News. >> [laughter] >> Or you go in the living room with my grandpa and he's watching Hamburger Hill or ████ one of these old war movies and the sound is up so high that you can't even hear Fox News even if you're sitting right next to the TV with your ████ like you can barely hear it cuz he's playing war movies the whole time. So yeah, make make old people houses fun. >> Did your parents ever like gatekeep like Asian culture to you guys to be like you

50 know back in the homeland this is what kids had to go through you got it so easy to try to motivate you to work harder and all that ████ like my parents would like play this karate documentary and they'd be like in Japan the children have to in the wintertime do karate in the river and then they would play it and then kids are crying and they're ████ doing karate it's ice cold and it only motivated me dude. I was like I can't wait. When am I going to do that? And then they try to get me to do homework and ████ and they're like yeah, in Japan they study for 12 hours. Then I'm like ████ for real? Well, I'mma color for 12 hours then and I'm just ████ drawing and coloring and ████ So it always backfired and later on I find out that is not even Japanese culture but they ████ so many things

41 about Japan. They'll be like in Japan everybody only eats one meal a day and walks 10 miles to school and I'm like that's ████ ████ dude like but I believe it. >> just made a fake documentary? >> They No, well the kid ████ is real. >> Okay, okay. >> It happens but it's it's almost like not all kids in America go to military summer camp. >> Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. >> You know, not all kids in America live in the ████ like villages that have to take the train and walk 20 miles like that's ████ So like they they I don't know like I think a lot of parents do that ████ where they gatekeep. >> Or gaslight, right? >> Yeah. They get yeah, gaslight I guess yeah. Where they're the where they're the ████ they're the cultural like Google. >> Oh, gatekeeping that way. I see, I see, I see, I see. >> Yeah. And then that's all you know. Like, you don't know anything about that country. So then they're just telling

32 you this is what kids over there do. You should be lucky. >> What were they trying to get you to do by get telling these stories? >> So like one would be like you know, during the war in Japan, everyone didn't have food. And my grandma was like, "Yeah, we had to eat every rice grain in our bowl, right?" And then so they're like, you should be grateful because not only that, there's kids in Africa that can't eat. >> I always heard the kids in Africa. >> All that ████ And then I'm like, "Really?" And I'm like, "Well, maybe they could just um they could eat my leftovers. Let's mail it to them." And I got my ass ████ beat, dude. >> I used to say that ████ all the time. >> Just mail it to them. They'll eat it. >> Cuz we're smart asses and then it's like, "Cool, you're not eating at all. Go to bed." >> I I was being earnest, dude. I just got my ass beat. >> I just I didn't get ass beat, but I was It was like, "Go to bed. You're not eating." >> I ain't doing that. I'll tell you that. Well, maybe that No, I'm going to do it.

22 I'm going to lie. I'm going to lie to my kids. You won't? >> Hell, yeah. >> What kind of lie? All kinds. >> Any Any time. Any day. >> How about every time you say I love you? >> Yeah. >> [laughter]
