00 All right. A lot of people were asking us to talk about this because it's I guess like I wouldn't say it's similar, but it'd be fun to discuss what would happen if if this happened to us. I don't know if you guys know who Kevin Lang is. I watch a lot of his stuff. He's a huge channel. He basically uh his his channel averages about 80 million views a month. >> Jesus. >> Um >> is he that food reviewer guy? >> He's got like 5.3 mill or actually like more than that. maybe like 6 million subscribers across his few channels that he has. It's this guy. You might have seen his clips before. He's got one of those like shows where it's all like whitewalled shows. It's similar to uh David Alvarez's, but it's it's mostly like a a black cast. They do a lot of really really great videos, but um something happened with this channel

50 where um he had a conflict with some of his panel members. So, they always have the same like group of guys and their dynamic is really really cool. They're super funny together. Um, and he's great, too, but I I've never really thought of like him being the main part of the show. I just really like the way they all interact with each other. And the other members were Danny, Aaron, and Herm. And they're currently under NDA and can't really discuss too much about what's happening, but apparently at some point they wanted to negotiate for credit, better pay. Uh maybe some of them weren't even getting paid at all. But instead of anything happening there, the whole panel was wiped out and replaced by a different rotating cast. >> Oh ████ >> And uh the reason why this was such a big deal is because this guy uh Kevin Lang, >> which one is Kevin Lang? >> I just see like a bunch. >> That guy, the main the main black dude.

40 >> Okay. >> So um [sighs] basically he got a Netflix deal for his show. That's that show that he runs is now on Netflix. >> Oh wow. >> Tatiana Gucci's on it a whole lot as well. Um, and so a lot of the people who uh were in his content didn't even know it would end up on Netflix and it just basically without any compensation just ended up on there. >> Oh. >> Um, and without even the permission of some of the people who uh who had appeared on his cast such as, you know, like Gucci and also Giani Paulo, you know, like >> Giani that we've had on a bunch. He's um on his podcast uh which is called The Crew Has It. just explicitly talked about how he's like, "Oh, damn. It would have been nice to at least get paid for that." Like, you got a Netflix deal and just put all your ████ on there and nobody got paid. And so, uh, there's huge backlash on his channel. I don't

31 think like I don't know if it's actually like a remarkable amount that's ever going to affect him cuz he's so huge. But like in the last 30 days, he lost like 130k subs. What? >> Which is like a fender bender in his world. >> Yeah. He's so he's going through the churn of like discontent or whatever >> and there's just like of course we've seen it a million times a lot of channels he's in that mode where like everyone's making content about the toxicity of it. People are like saying they'll never watch it again but um I don't know. it doesn't really seem like it's going to hurt him uh communitywise it's hurt him because you know there's a lot of people like Gucci's making a lot of uh videos addressing it because you know she's upset >> she's not on an NDA so she's actually allowed to back up her friends who are some of the people that have left >> ah >> it's going to be a rep thing too cuz now when you have people on your show people are going to be like uh am I one foot

21 out like am I >> am I temporarily here and then you're going to ask me too >> yeah yeah >> yeah but the way the world works is also like does that mean I get to be one foot in ████ it. I'll do it. >> Totally. Totally. >> There are going to be a lot of people that, you know, just want to be part of it no matter what's going on. >> So, what I heard is that the cast didn't even know he signed the deal. It's like they're the they're like his day ones. Then they the way they found out was >> it was like out in the public and they're like, "Wait, what? We have a Netflix show?" He goes, "No, I got a Netflix show, not you." >> And then he expected them to be cool. like we're going to keep going on together as a group and then they're like, "Wait, what the ████ We don't know anything about this." >> Yeah, that's that is pretty much I heard the same thing how it happened that way. But and and I guess like they instead of like >> uh from Kevin Lang's point of view, he

12 had said that their their lawyers or their represent representation contacted him about pay. So he made it sound like it got like corporate or something and then instead of like I guess getting to a negotiation they just got let go and then they even those three guys uh Aaron Herman Denny they they have been saying that like oh if you see us on anything it's it's old recordings like they're not part of it anymore. You think he just got tunnel vision? Like a ████ opportunity he's been waiting for for his whole life and then he sees the check and he's like, you know what I'm saying? Like and you just forgot about everything like his humble beginnings and he was just like, "F███ it." >> That's what everybody thinks. Everybody thinks it's like he probably just viewed the show as like, "Oh, this is my show." Which of course it is. It's his freaking name. >> But I think he also maybe he didn't realize how important the other guys

02 were as to why people watch it. Like they do love the dynamic of all of them. >> Kind of in the same way that people like our dynamic. And it's like if you just took everybody out, some people might be bothered by that. >> Yeah. Cuz the chemistry is going to be different. >> Yeah. Exactly. >> It' be We should just do it sometime. Bart and Joe should show up and just have a completely different group of people in here. [laughter] See what the ████ happens with the audience. >> I think that's happened before in history. It has. >> I mean, it was a different cast. Maybe I'm jaded now cuz I'm ████ old as ████ and I always see all kinds of ████ So when we were pitching JK as a TV show, >> we were pitching our cast. Our whole cast went to all the pitch meetings. Comedy Central. We showed them the chemistry. >> What cast was this at the time? >> The Unmentionables. >> Oh. >> So we would we would show we would show up like that, right? And then so to me

53 I'm like, okay, this guy did it this way. Everyone hates him. They said they he did it wrong. I felt like we did it the right way, but the Unmentionables end up quitting and backstabbing anyways. So me at this point in my career, I'm like, what's right? What's wrong? You know, I'm like whatever. Cuz I feel like me and Joey, we have this loyalty thing. We want to try to build a family thing and we try to like >> pitch with everybody. And then >> at the end of the day, everyone has their own mind and what they want and what they think is right or wrong and there's free will, whatever. So, I'm like I it's hard for me to go because I would go I think maybe just 10 years ago, but dude, that's ████ up. You should bring bring your day ones with you. But I brought we brought our day ones with us and it backfired. >> So, I'm like I don't know. Should you bring your day on? >> Well, I mean, I assume that it's it can't be so black and white, right? It's not just like you either like bring your

43 day ones or you like yourself, right? There's there's maybe like if there's a giant deal that's happening and you can't take it all I don't know. There's a conversation there before it goes out into the public. >> He didn't leave out his day ones. The thing is he didn't tell them and just brought them or like used the footage and it's like what the ████ Like why didn't you communicate that? >> Yeah, I think there's just that. >> Yeah, he didn't communicate anything. It's not like Netflix goes like hey we're going to email you about this deal. You got a day to figure it out, you know, and and you just got to make >> He's just been like continue filming without telling them anything about what's going on. >> Did the suits at Comedy Central or any of those places ever give you guys notes about cast and be like you got to swap this guy out and add our guy all that? Oh, never. >> That's what some people are thinking too to give them the benefit of doubt. Like maybe the network was like, uh, we want to put cooler, we want to put some of our people in your seat.

33 >> I mean, they do that ████ like >> Exactly. That does happen. >> So, we had a cool showrunner who already had a track record. He did uh Are you smarter than a fifth grader? So, I think he's leading the conversation. So, I think that might have shielded and protected us cuz he was like, "Whatever they have going on, I like." And so, now they're deal dealing with uh who runs the world. [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah. Now J to J B to B, they're dealing with them. >> Maybe maybe my like memory of it is messed up. But I thought the reason why it's a whole new cast is because they didn't want anything to do with him anymore. So they they didn't join. So So that's why they got replaced. >> But was that the catalyst? Was the show the catalyst for >> It's hard to say because the three guys have NDAs and they're not. >> Oh, so it's just a rumor. I see. I see. Um, all I know is that what they did post when the three dudes posted, they just said, "We're not you're not going

24 to see us anymore." Gotcha. >> Yeah. Um, but one of the things that's crazy is that like that rotating cast that they're talking about includes like really big celebrities. It's not just a rotating cast of like other like randoms. You know what I mean? >> Is it kind of like uh ridiculousness where like that one main seat is rotated by someone you're going to see all the time? >> But see, that's a different chemistry. I get why the audience hates it. >> Yeah. I think it's like I think maybe they just underestimated how much the audience loved that specific chemistry >> which is always something that you know I'm sure from the leader point of view maybe that's like a little more invisible >> like like who though like they got like Neil Patrick Harris or something like >> like who's like cuz some some people I'll be like yeah that's dope >> and then the follow-up is just like how are the numbers on the show because like chemistry or not if like the guy's pulling numbers and it's doing better than like half of your other shows on Netflix that like maybe cost more to

15 produce you're still like ████ Yeah, if it's crushing. >> If we replace Anthony with Neil Patrick Harris, I think we'd have >> some pretty good I think >> some We'd have some good episodes. >> I think you could replace me with a lot of less people. It' be good. >> But it would it would be hard to make fun of Neil Patrick Harris. [snorts] >> Isn't it easier? >> Maybe. >> But he has it's Yeah, he has so many accomplishments. They're starting with a low bar here on me. Okay. Once you throw celebs in the picture, it'll they'll have these clauses like how Vin Diesel and what's his name? Can't punch each other more than five times, you know, like everyone has like I can't make you can't joke about this this this. I can never lose in a fight. >> I heard Steven Seagal had that where it's like he can't show like he like winces in pain or >> he can't even take a punch. >> Yeah. So if he punches him it's like it's always just like this. He can never go like >> he can only eat punches. Yeah. [laughter] >> Yeah.

05 >> That's tight though. Like that's cool. I wish we knew about those when we first watched his movies because that would make it more funny. >> Yeah, >> that's the long game though, you know? It's like you find out at the end >> like what's in his contract. >> But I guess I mean the the thing is can you how much can you blame Kevin Lang if this was his ultimate vision? Like if he wanted what he really wanted was to get an A-list show with like different celebs kind of like Hot Ones or something where like the value of his show goes up, you know? I don't know if that's >> He just sounds like another Hollywood guy. >> Sure. Yeah. >> Yeah. This that's that's what I was thinking. >> They get all ████ hot about soon as you start saying celebrity names to him and stuff. He gets all oo get a little twinkle in his eye about it. >> But then the charm of the show is built on the we're just a bunch of homies. >> Totally. We're friends. >> Like you changed, man. Hollywood changed you. One of those. >> Yep. >> Uh test us. And I guess we will not pass

56 that test either. We will all sell out. >> Wait, what? I don't want to hang out with celebrities. >> That was my next question. How would we all react? >> We'll go We'll go to ████ Tuby, dude, and we'll sell out. You know who are the most boring people I've ever met in my life? It's always ████ Hollywood people. Celebrity people, Hollywood people, actory people. >> Is that the original guys? >> That's them. Yeah, that's the >> Is that um Somali? [laughter] >> Cool. Note, there's a reason why these people are so ████ boring that you have you have a talk show that they have to pre-in for have a story ready. Like, >> I don't know, dude. >> Who is that? Is that Johnny Somali? >> That's not Johnny Somali. >> That's not my fault. My fault. Oh, Johnny Somali. >> Oh, I thought you said >> I thought you straight calling him Somali. >> I thought you meant like daycare fraud guy. >> No, no, no. Is that Is that Johnny Somali? I was just wondering. My My fault, dog. [laughter]

47 >> ████ My fault. >> That's my B. That's my B. >> My B. My B. >> Have you ever So, you've never seen any of the show before? >> They have really really funny ideas. Like they'll do these They'll do these things where they'll put five people in complete morph suits so you can't tell what they are and then um it's like guess which one the black person is. That's funny. >> That's so funny. >> Oh, I have seen that. >> Yeah, they do a bunch of really They have really really great creative >> You guys seen that version or that format, but it's like with like a bunch of Hispanic dudes. >> That's David Alvarez. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Like even with like not the original cast, do you know if like >> the show's still doing well? That's all I'm curious about. I guess >> it's hard cuz if it's on Netflix I don't even know. >> Yeah. No one knows. No one knows the numbers. >> But the show his YouTube channel itself is still doing extremely well. That's why I look at >> with the new cast >> with whatever the ████ on there because you look at the dent it made and it's so like you know what I mean like

37 the the whole like fan uproar it rarely I mean it's not it's more often than not ineffective you know it's not really that big of a deal if the dude is still driven if the fan uproar gets to him that's when it really like affects progress right but if he doesn't care he obviously don't care about these dudes he won't care about the fans you know >> well mostly the fans get pissed if the if the show quality changes Yeah, >> they don't they'll I don't know. It gives them something to talk about when there's drama, but if the show quality changes, that's what they don't like anymore. >> Yeah, cuz as much people as saying are not watching it, his views aren't down like >> he's still killing it. >> Cuz some of these shows, it's about the format. Like you could have a Jeopardy. It just the format is it works, right? But it you could rotate with different people, >> right? Or maybe he's looking at it in the way that like I got to I guess like transcend platforms before this dies.

29 You know, some people are really good at looking at that way. They're like, I'm not going to ride this out till it it goes down. It's more like just lateral move as on your way up. >> I want to know why he couldn't just tell his friends. >> There must be something going on. >> Maybe he really did just view it like this is my channel. Why do I have to tell anybody anything? >> Yeah. >> I think he just saw the check and he was like this is good. Let's just send it. >> And the names, the Hollywood names. >> Yeah. Money could change. That's one thing they they also wanted to negotiate for is they they rarely ever get like their names on stuff like even this this is for their tours names are not on there like they never they were like saying like it would be nice to get tagged in more stuff >> you know because they just it's just his show you know it's hard to say >> I don't know dude if I got a check and then like I got to that point because people came with me I break them bread

19 and I go but you're not coming on the show [laughter] >> but even that is sensible there there's like a middle ground. It's not just black or white. Yeah. You know, >> it's like Yeah. Even to just be like, "Hey, look, I'm not bringing you on this next ride, but here's like 50 grand." >> I figured it out. >> Just culturally different. That's all. [laughter] >> Culturally different. >> Is it Is it cuz THEY'RE SOMALIAN? >> WHOA. WHOA. I didn't say that. >> Let us know in the comments what you guys think of the Kevin Lang show situation. Uh, do you think it's going to have any effect on the success of the show now that it's on Netflix or um, yeah, did they make a big mistake by I guess not maintaining a good relationship with these guys who I feel like were very key to the original charm of the panel? Let us know in the comments.
