00 [Music] welcome back to Out of the Closet we have Nick back last episode if you guys recall was probably one of the best videos we' ever done so now we're going to bring it all the way down into the Dungeons and into the drgs and just talk and close with your black belt Journey we don't need we don't need any more streams watch this one's even more darker so I'll say this that's a very serious thing I'll say this when Bart was like Hey I need five life events M MH that change your life I was like I got four I got four I don't know I was like I don't know if I can stretch five right and if if you look at the notes that I gave to Steve yeah the first first four filled out the last one like two it's a sentence that's a throw away dude that's a to yeah so uh no it's not you liar no

50 but like so I which black belt this is what you have to say this I got my Jitsu black belt uh I got it after I got it after like 8 years of training ji Jitsu um I wasn't expecting it uh my initial thought at the time when I got it was you sure just like your brown belt and your purple belt and your blue belt all of them just like your white Bel uh yeah kind of that was the only one that I was like I could wear this one this is good would you have been totally fine if it just never came kind of honestly what do you think it is about like your imposter syndrome thing where like you get something and you just don't feel deserving of it this is not necessarily the impos uh well maybe a little bit impost part of me feels like blackb is really cool but it's also really not at the same time nowadays I feel like to me like The Duality of it is like yeah you're a black belt but it still

40 don't mean that much I think I think you're too in the world because is that what it is cuz I it's like I'm a civilian and I think that's so tight and I'd wear it everywhere if I and that's why they' never give me one and also so I'm a I'm a white belt and I know how many mat hours it takes to get a black belt so I think because you're in the no you're like dude sometimes purple belts beat black belts or whatever and you see these crazy phenoms and all that ████ but when you're not in the no and you're a white belt like me and I see the amount of mat hours it takes to get a black belt it's like running like 10 marathons you know so I'm like regardless of how good or rening technique is it's still a ████ achievement can I say something yeah something man bar was so gracious him and Gio and taer took me to my first J just to class did you you went yeah did why are you bringing this up now you didn't bring this up earlier as soon as I walked in the door it's relevant M

31 it's relevant and we only shoot for Content we don't we can't we're not allowed to talk we don't you know on on Thursday so we we go Tuesday and Thursday on Thursday Tao's like oh are we going to pick up Anthony before Jiu-Jitsu I'm like no Anthony's not consistent like that first of all I was not in town I know you in town you're in Mexico I can you explain that he knows Mexico he understand what Mexico thethy theth doesn't stick to anything but just tell we were doing lines off I want to talk about that but I'm still in My Story by the way sorry my bad my bad okay it's relevant Jes you're literally derailing this sorry sorry go ahead the floor is yours all right thank you uh so he takes me it's my first time and then we go into some like hardcore lessons and stuff nobody's coaching me at all but that's like part of the thrill of it and then we by the end of the class it's like all right we start rolling I'm like what the ████ is happening right and

21 then naturally I'm rolling with him I'm realizing that this is a crazy experience the second he puts his knee on my chest or my stomach he's so strong he's just so dense you know what I mean anyways I start roll can't do to anybody else you have to do it to the new guy I start rolling with this other dude who's not even wearing a belt for whatever reason and uh he like smells like PE completely owns me in like 12 seconds and then he looks at ask me he's like how long you been rolling I was like this is my first day right and then he starts to and apparently I just found out this is like not the right or cool thing to do but he puts me on like two different leg locks twice right and it's my first day you're not supposed to look like white belts yeah well that's crazy but later on the the cool thing about this the relevant thing is when we go back we're just kind of like de brief feeling experience and I was like dude

11 that was crazy like I got just put into a pretzel like I've never been so humbled to my life and then he was all super excited his face glows cuz you know how he sucks your dick about Jiu-Jitsu stuff and he was like dude you know how like he puts you in a pretel I was like yeah he's like Nick could put that guy in a pretzel and I understood something yeah right I something it can make you it can make you come just from a hole without even touching your dick I'm more tantric style that's my thing it's it's duration no cuz he the other guy was a blue belt so you know to a white belt a blue belt the blue belt is a is a God right but then a a black belt to a blue belt like that's his ████ daddy I just felt like I understood something like like there's levels to this ████ but as Nick has said many times the blue belt can kick a back belt's ass so suck on that yeah suck on that that is that true that you're not supposed to leg lock white belts like etiquette it's like the problem with

02 certain certain things in ji- Jitsu is like it's like a power Dynamic right if you have the power as far as like the skill the technique and the time on the mats over someone who just started it's kind of stupid like yeah you could put them in like that's fine but it's like it's also like how you're doing it right I think if I was a blue belt and I had a white belt coming in at that time I'd be like hey let me show you this is your first class let me do some ████ to you let me show you how to like get out of something like let me let me have you work out I gu was having fun for he was probably like ooh a dummy that I cont test on that's what it is it's like when you're a blue belt you're like o like we don't get fresh meat around here so I get to try out all the ████ cuz you're so used to getting your ass kicked all the time as a blue belt so like when you had that chance to like smash somebody else you you kind of take that opportunity which to be fair I thoroughly appreciate I didn't see anything wrong with I was just like how can I just be ████ thrown into

53 something so quickly and not understand ████ choked me out with my own GE and I was like you know what I mean and but then the way this guy was like this lit raging boner in the car he's like hey you know how I put you in a pretzel Nick put that guy in a pretzel I can make that guy come dude because in this in this room right we see Nick as the goofball I've trained with Nick before so like when I was with Anthony I was like you know what's crazy I was like the guy that you know Nick deflector goofball he'll murder that fool which is pretty crazy I will I will say this cuz apparently this is just free C that guy freefor all Story Hour apparently um stretch stretch so so I was at fabrio w Doom's gym like I don't know a decade ago and I fought one of his students because for a trolling video and oh my ████ god that guy kicked me in the ribs as hard as he could and it was absolutely ████ insane and life-changing

44 and uh because I talked so much ████ to him the whole time but he was loving it you guys were sparring or it was just a straight one time it was like I'm there to clown on him and they he knew this but I don't think he knew the level that I am capable of talking ████ to another human being and and eventually he just we have it which was great for the videoo kicked you or someone his student no no not for but his one of his students and he was like one of his good students so he was like and at that time that's really hard 10 years ago that's very hardcore and that was like ████ absolutely goddamn insane but and I was holding thank God I was holding a uh a pad like with with inches on that on that thing as you guys would say you know um but then humbling style he had me well before this he had me on the ground and he was putting me in 17 different pretzels and it's just like nothing you can do that's crazy pretty crazy you can it's a lot tell him that

34 you still have a bigger dick than him it just slowly builds until he just like I'm going to kick this he it but he was amazing and then off camera he was so great but yeah there's like I respect the sport big time as much as I talk ████ no it's fun it's fun to talk ████ about cuz it is like it is cool to be like oh yeah like I got my black belt um because it is something that I am proud of cuz I put a lot of time and effort and it's more about the time but it's also about who I got it from too it's like my my Jitsu coach he's like a big mentor to me and he's like you know he's like he's like a ████ second dad to me you know in a lot of ways he taught me a lot about life and being an adult and like going through this game and being a good coach right and you still see him from time to time I still see him all the time I see him more than my real dad um is that the Filipino guy yeah Joe Joe Joe Toro he's he's one of the best guys ever and um so thankful to have him

25 because if I didn't have him I don't know how far I'd make it into this black belt Journey thing like if I didn't have a good community of boys and homies that be train because even during the co we were all rolling during the whole time you guys have a good gym culture yeah man and and it's just a good group of guys like I'm more than anything black belt or not I'm just really proud of the the community that we have that represents our gym like by far that's what I'm most proud of um do you ever think about if you stayed in the comfort of where you were before I this you never would have known about this I would have never known about this and I would have never thought that there was something better than where I was at I never felt so taken care of while getting my ass kicked that and that's what we kind of want right like we wanted to be a true learning environment where it's like yeah you can get hurt doing this but we want to lower the risk as much as possible and increase your ability to understand how to develop these skills without and

17 fast-tracking you we want you to get good faster we want you to get good so we have more people we could train and roll with you know like that's what really is um but you know kind of the culmination of how the gym came together was Jeremy um the guy I met at the old um gym that got closed down the one I talked about in the previous story he was a personal trainer there he was the owner of this Jitsu Academy him and his business partners had a split and they were kind of like giving him ████ about like oh you know you've been hiding money from us blah blah but in reality it was like they're ████ wrong they didn't know what the ████ they were talking about pointing fingers accusations about like you're a bad guy um and you know when I went when we went into business with all each other me Joe my buddy Kenny um we became coaches at the gym and we're all a little like hesitant a little bit we're a little nervous because it's like this we're working with somebody brand new this is a guy that we're friends

08 with and we built rapport with but like when business gets involved you never know how this happens like you never know what happens because all the previous times we were all at a gym and we started bringing our guys to their Community it was a lot of weirdness like the last gym that we were at we were kind of Nomads we're looking for a home to be at um we found a gym they brought us in they hired us on as instructors but then there was all this weird ████ that came out politics of like oh you're creating Clicks in this gym we can't have you here blah BL it's like weird ego ████ right so it was just like we C we kept bouncing around until we found the right people that we knew we could build with and that was when Jeremy came in the picture like he built the gym and was like Hey I want you guys to coach here I want us to build a really great environment and we were all on the same page with how we wanted to run it how

59 like the the aura and the environment of the gym which is really important like there was a couple issues that we had with certain problem members and how you deal with your first issues as a as a group really shows like okay how we're going to move forward business-wise when we have disagreements on how to handle a situation yeah how are we going to establish a culture exactly and when we were on the same page and we could all share exactly what we're feeling not holding anything back be straight up front with hey this is my opinion take it or leave it nobody gets offended they take it for what it's worth and we move forward with the best the best option and just having that Clarity and having that teamwork we've never had that before it was always like one person here one person here just causing a rift making it about themselves and not making it about like at the end of the day we're trying to serve our community

50 we're trying to serve our members and we want to give them the best product that we can and we have to be really um focused on how we want to build that product right and so being at linhard just as soon as you walk in the doors it's like man this is home like this is exactly where we need to be and you know like all of us getting our black belts together me and my buddy Hinrich um Kenny and I we got our we've been training since 2010 with each other so we known each other forever and they've they're all older than me they knew me when I was like 17 you know and they're like with they have they're about to be their 40s they're about to have kids and ████ so like I've known these guys for so long and to see how that journey is come together and now that we have this really ████ cool gym where we get to just play touch but with our friends all the time and we have you guys come out and train like you know it's it's like before all the

42 other places that we're at we never had that so to to have this place is really special to my heart and um I mean just it just feels like the beginning we're we're getting awesome you know so it just gives me a new kind of like lease on life a little bit what part of it made you feel like you weren't anywhere near ready to accept a black belt cuz I did a I did a brown belt competition right and I lost in my of my finals match and it like it doesn't mean anything if you win or lose a competition right cuz getting a black belt is more about like can you teach all these positions can you do it effectively like that's what a black Bel really means is like you know how to teach you know how to do it your skill as a competitor doesn't necessarily equate to your level of the belt that you have does it help yeah absolutely business wise it helps if you're a competitor you want to have competitors in it's like a nice little little um yeah it's it's a nice little humble

33 brag like yeah cool I compete you guys are badass cool it's it shows kind of what kind of gym you are um but I just always never felt ready for any of the belts I and it is one of those things where like my coach is always like yeah you'll grow into it and I felt like I did cuz it forced me to be like ████ I have to it really felt like I was starting all over again like damn I really don't know ████ which was like the cliche my coach would always tell me I'm like yeah you know and then when it happens and you're fa with it you're like oh yeah like this is really getting your black belt means a lot but that's why I always says it doesn't really mean that much at the same time CU if you're not willing to put in the time and effort to really like focus on the craft and studying all these positions and knowing keeping up with it then you know it's a deteriorating skill like there's so many guys that are like Jitsu black bels that are kind of like I want say passor Prime

23 but they're just not in the no anymore and then they're just like this is my title and they keep that like when people started introducing me to them it's like oh he's a juu blackb I was like oh this is weird like people come up to you they give you all this crazy respect that I'm like you don't even know who I am I can be a ████ guy sucks you dick every day about it honestly and and part of me is like that's cool but like when I go to other gyms and they see they're like professor professor I'm like dude I don't have a ████ PhD and ass cooking yeah maybe but like I heard this um tell me what you think about this I've heard this from a lot of black belts where they say like earning one is like a bachelor where you start your career once you get it and that's that's exactly so it's not like the end but when they said it's so ████ annoying cuz you're a white belt and you're like mother ████ cuz they'll say it as if we're the same cuz like in

13 so I take the fundamentals class which is like the beginner class right in our beginner's class there's like six black belts in there and I'm like hey you're a black Bel I'm like why are you still taking this class and he goes dude I don't know anything did you get a DUI and he's like he's saying like I don't know anything like like like like right like us and I'm like ████ shut the ████ up dude cuz I've only heard from MC Dojo schools where they hold around the belt like I'm the king yeah but then other most places I've been to they're like yeah this is I'm over it and that could happen in a lot of Jitsu places like there is some weird ████ that happens with that um do you think it's whacked that cuz I was at the mcdojo place like with the founder of MCD dojo's June ████ re karate dude I think junry is actually legit Jun is legit well apparently but but every time I bring him up you guys laugh but cuz how you say it he tell the funny story dude he came in in a gold ghee do you think this

03 is but he's legit though he came in in a gold ghee which is already hilarious that might be some ta he's actually the father of MC MCD Dojo exactly no he he commercialized it so that's a mcdojo he came in in a gold his marketing was great it was ta wondo and then he would do a 100 ████ push-ups in front of everybody before we did any tournaments that's ████ he would just make us watch him do 100 T 100 Push I think it felt like it took forever W cuz I was a kid I was watching cartoons at the time so but I think he he gate weed for so many people yeah he that was probably the original business model that like the Gracie bar gyms like the chain gyms they probably took that and ran with it that's probably what it is but the belt system does is very important for marketing but in in in jui-jitsu though right like um do they have the same belt system as karate where it's like 10 different colors and ████ well for the kids they do it's funny for the kids so

54 the kids they have like a white belt then a white belt with a black stripe and then they have like they have a great Bel and then they have like four different colored gray belts and then they have a dark gray belt and then they have a dark orange and they have a light all you feel like they should ████ me up because I took te1 as a kid and then I realized that just the master there was just trying to get as much money as possible cuz you got a test for Every belt yeah so like I had like 19 belts before I got to Black Belt you know what I mean and it's like and I feel like when I first started too it was like solid colors and then like as you start going up they're like no we can't give them a black belt yeah if we want to stay around so you start getting Stripes right and then start adding double stripes and ████ and it was like yeah no it it gets it gets ridiculous it gets ridiculous well it also too I was like I cuz I H purple belt and then I and then one day I just had this look in the mirror with myself and I was like I'm going to end up killing one of these kids and that's when I got out bro you

45 go to any like if you're ever randomly in a martial arts supply store you look at the wall of belt like half the revenue was just from belts yeah oh yeah like the amount of belts that's on the wall is like this is ridiculous who's this for and that's only just for like jiu-jitsu karate how many belts are in Jiu-Jitsu for jiujitsu for adults it's white blue purple brown black so there oh that's traditional five yeah five levels so needs more orange but I like it white yellow orange green blue but when you're when you're a kid they use that system they use like all those colors and then once you cuz they need to give you advancement to make you feel like you're going somewhere right but that's purely why Jiu-Jitsu is blown up way more than like kickboxing right because in kickboxing there's no belt system so it's like your skills that you learn true and you don't know where you

36 are in your journey exactly you could yeah it's it's kind of harder to can you you you could get belt systems in kickboxing or is it like boxing where you get where you get the title belts the kickboxing um gyms that do pretty well that have a system they use their own belt system so like B Dwayne lwig he's bang more Thai they have a belt system and they do pretty well and they they have Affiliates because and that's why I think jiu-jitsu algor wrestling too cuz wrestling is the same thing you don't know where you are as far as championship belt you know exactly where you are oh that big gold thing ████ idiot especially for a consumer like if you're that out cuz I was so stupid so from your journey in Jiu-Jitsu right there's a black belt how many stripes until that coral one or whatever I think you got to do degrees so I think it's every 3 years then you get one degree meaning a stripe on your belt how many stripes does it go to ████ dude I think

27 like four and then you can get like you get have a ████ zebra stripes all the way up you're Bel in Taekwondo dude Jun R karate dude that the belt system is actually very traditional that's like old school Shoon and Judo they do the same one it's five it's five stages and then on top of that five more stages from the uh black belt and I think it's like that for for Jitsu too I don't know you you probably know more than I do dude take one you have a kid with an orange belt He Got Stripes going all the way up you think he's a Cincinnati Bengals fan dude go B goag ████ damn in karate you're just jumping around sports teams you're a Cowboys one day or ████ dude yeah like those Jiu-Jitsu ones I think you got to like have been a black belt by itself for 20 years before you start going into all the other crazy like Coral colors or whatever cuz Judo

18 karate all the old school wins after the black belt it's all academic or like what you do to the industry it's like it's not even skills like dude it's so funny cuz like when I when I got my black belt initially in my head this is I was like who cares no big deal people like would tag my they post on Instagram like my stories whatever right they're like oh dude congrats and I was like oh ████ this is pretty crazy I'd repost it and I leave my phone off to the side and then end of the day I come back my phone blew so many people blew me up and were like congratulations on the black belt and I was like oh ████ I guess this is kind of a big deal in a lot of ways like cuz random people that I didn't think even gave a ████ right like was like graduating yeah I know but like feel like it's like graduating med school though but people that aren't people that aren't in like people that don't even give a ████ about jiujitsu whatever like all these random

09 people hit me up and I was like wow that's actually pretty crazy and then I started to realize like oh ████ is this kind of a big deal it's also like not an extracurricular activity for you yeah it's not it's like true a huge part of your life you know what I mean so it was easier kind of no arguably absolutely correct yeah like I've integrated my life and my work with this so it's like it's kind of part of you're not part-timing it yeah I'm not so it's a little different for me yeah you better get a black belt then know right you there all day yeah ████ they all day that's like going to Med medical school and never passing the ████ exam you got all these white belts to practice on yeah doesn't get you better though that's cool though I think it's a big accomplishment man no yeah no I'm I'm very thankful for it and it and it as much as I joke around saying it's ████ whack I'm just joking about like I did like five martial arts I never went anywhere with it so like that's it's hard to stick with but then part of

59 it is like damn dude like I'm pretty good at like wrestling guys I don't know what that means it's a pretty good thanks for it's very difficult thanks guys thanks guys love you guys ████ love man

// end of tape
