Today we have Mr. Jason Channing with us. >> Hello, Jason. >> Thank you so much. >> What's your um what's your real name? >> Tens. >> It's [snorts] Mandarin. Yeah. Um Yeah. >> Did you change it to Jason Chenny? because no one could or uh no one could pronounce tun. [laughter] >> You know what? I'm really offended that that as another Asian person, you you did this to me, man. >> What do you mean? >> What do you mean? Where? >> I thought I did a good job. >> Ask him ask him what he ask him what his real name is. >> Yeah. What's your real name, man? >> Masato. >> Wow, that's really sexy. >> That's easier than ████ You said >> ████ bus.

58 What is a broken bus? The >> Hey, did I say it right? >> That was very good. [laughter] >> [laughter] >> orange chicken. >> Whoa. [laughter] >> Oh my god. >> He's the one making fun of it. He's the only one who can say it right. [laughter] >> Oh yeah. What the ████ What the hell? You better earlier. [laughter] >> You lost your >> You lost your ally, dude. That's it. >> Chinese is so hard to pronounce. >> It is. >> Yeah, it's pretty hard to pronounce. >> What? What's hard? Chinese. >> It's hard to pronounce. >> Yeah.

48 >> But you Okay. [clears throat] You know what with the with the thing with the name is? So Jason, I put a couple people call me Chenny Chen Chen in [snorts] NA. >> That's tight. >> Okay. They're black. Um Chen, but Chitty Chen stuck. >> Why don't you call him N word back? >> I [laughter] want I wanted to, but back then it was not allowed. >> Okay. >> That's the equivalent of Chenny Chen. Chen. >> You want to talk ████ to me, huh? [laughter] >> Chen word. Chen word. The equivalent of chinny chin chin will be calling somebody Tyrone. >> I don't know. Every black person is Tyrone. >> Well, your daddy. Exactly. [laughter] >> They used his name though. They used Chenny. >> Okay. Okay. >> Chinny Chin Chin. >> Yeah. >> Which is kind of clever. >> Yeah. >> Chinese vib. [laughter]

39 >> [snorts] >> But uh with the name thing so tensin, right? And then um people give names in Taiwan because we have English class and then my mama chose Jason and I always loved the Power Rangers and Jason was my favorite. >> Wow. >> Yeah, the Red Ranger. So, but she said that as a coincidence? I don't think so. >> You think she saw Jason as well and liked him? >> I lied. I don't know. [laughter] She thought he was hot. She's like, I'm going to name my son Jason. >> I loved I loved him. >> Yeah, he was your favorite one. >> He was my favorite one. Yeah, I don't know why. I was a little gay, but let's [laughter] skip that. My point is >> Loot Ranger if you were a little gay >> cuz that that guy was actually gay. >> That Oh, I didn't know that. >> But I like the straight ones. I want to turn them. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, you're you're a very high achieving gay guy. [laughter]

31 >> High value man. Okay. But with the name thing is like so the Chenny Oh. Oh, in the beginning people couldn't find my name, right? Like cuz I only have 500 followers and and they're like, "Are you a comedian?" I'm like, "Yeah." And then they're like, "Which one?" And they're like, "I can't find you." I'm like, "All right, never mind." >> Oh, right. So, >> all right. Never mind. >> All right. Never mind. But also the name thing when people go, "Why'd you put the thing?" It's like, so people could couldn't find me. >> Put the Y. >> Put the Y because it's like a nickname, right? But then and then what about like really famous people if not famous like some people's uh name is like toothpaste. >> Yeah. >> Or >> carrot top. >> Carrot whatever the thing is or or Jay-Z or Beyonce even whatever cuz we're talking about the thing. But also what is the name? Like you were born with a name and that has to be your name. >> Do you know what I mean?

21 >> Yeah, I see that. >> You know what I'm saying? Like a a name is to me is just a is just what you call it. >> It's a starter home. It's a starter home. You could change [laughter] it. >> Yeah, people could change it. Yeah. Whatever the thing is. So, I don't know if that's your thing. But I'm like, well, what would people call you? Well, why do people call you that ████ What is it? It's just thing that >> But then [laughter] a little defensive. >> Yeah. >> Oh, that that's a cool story though. Like now I know why it's Chenny because you took it from Chenny Chen Chen, which people are calling you. >> ID says Chen though. It doesn't say Chenn. >> Chen. Yeah, Chen. Chun. Yeah, Chen is um is Chen. Yeah. But um >> and then people start calling Chenny Chen Chen. So you're like ah Jason Chenny Chen Chen. >> They started calling me that. I didn't call myself that. >> Tired of being confused with the superior Jason Chen. >> Yes. That and also they couldn't find me at all. [laughter]

11 >> Jason Chen. >> Yeah. >> Probably more. >> Yeah. >> Even Jason Chen's IG isn't Jason Chen. I think his is like Jason Middle initial Chen >> cuz his his will get buried too. >> Right. Right. Okay. >> Yeah. by that side that so many parents chose Jason as the American name. >> It was popular then I >> Yeah, that is a very popular name. I wanted to be named Jason very badly. >> What? But Jason is such a like general name though. >> I think it was very cool in the '9s and when I was I remember I was I was 5 years old. One of my earliest memories, I got lost at Fedco and then um which was like a big department store back then. And then my dad always told me like never to tell strangers my name. So then I was like in a debacle because I went to the front desk and they were like, "Okay, what's your name? We'll call your parents on the loudspeaker."

01 So I didn't was like what the I can't say my name. So I I said my name is Jason. So they were like oh your son Jason is here. And [snorts] my dad was like, "Well, I'm looking I'm not looking for Jason, but maybe he thought it was me anyway that I was just saying it." And he was right. And he was like, >> he's like, "My son is the only dumb one that would say not his name." >> Yeah. Only my son would do something that stupid. >> So he comes over and he's like, "Why did you name yourself Jason?" And I was like, "I like that name a lot." >> Whoa. >> But he he's like, "How would your dad know that was you?" >> Right. As a kid brain, kid brain's like, "Daddy would know." >> Yeah. [laughter] It's because in Sesame Street there was a charact There's a guy named Jason on there I thought was really cool. >> This was before Power Rangers was around. But yeah, Jason was even cool before Tyratosaurus. >> Jason. Okay. >> I think the lame joke [laughter] is that

52 back then is like everyone with the name Jason got called Gay. >> Oh, that's fine. I don't care. >> Did that ever happen to you? >> No. Never. Never. No. >> Never happened to you one time. >> Oh, yeah. A couple times. Couple times. Kids could rhyme gay with anything. They'll stick to that. That's That was the thing. So your name is like, "Oh, I don't know if that name could sound gay." So like >> it's like Raymond. Oh, your name is gay man. Yeah. >> You know, like [laughter] they they did that all the time. So my biggest fear was have a name that like rhymed with gay cuz I'm like, "No." >> Or that someone would have figured out how to turn Joseph into like a gay name. >> Yeah. But it was always like Broph. [laughter] >> Yeah. It was like Broph or like >> you never got made fun of for your name >> Joama. >> But then that's like different but like that's well actually it's not different >> but that was it. >> That's highly convenient. It's almost

42 too good that you just can't make fun of it. >> Yeah. >> It was either that or ho because Joe >> that his original name is Jose Joe Mama. >> Oh, I didn't know that. Okay. >> Mama m like original name. >> Joe Mama. >> His starter home name was Joe Mama. >> And then it become Joe. >> Huh? It became Joe Jutsukawa or Joseph Jutsuka. >> Joe. Well, I took my mom's maiden name. >> Oh, I see. >> So, I changed it legally when I turned 18. >> Oh, >> but the funny thing is that while people were talking about you when I didn't meet you yet, they they weren't going that's Joe Mama. They weren't laughing about it. They were just they thought it was cool. >> I know, right? >> It was like the opposite effect. >> But I hated the name Joe Mama, you know? >> Uh, wait. Joe Mama is the first name. >> No, Mama was last name. Mama's. What was it? >> It's pronounced [laughter] >> It was

32 >> mama. MMA. Sorry. >> Mama. Mama. >> It was pronounced momma. >> But when my parents came to America, >> they just spelled it like mama. [laughter] >> Oh, damn. >> It should have been spelled M O N. >> Mon. >> Oh, it's a white guy's [laughter] fault. >> Yeah. >> He spelled it like double M at the second time, huh? Yeah, it was supposed cuz it's it's literally mo like m o n and then mom. >> Yeah, that's that's the first word. >> Monma. >> Yeah, that's >> the whole time it was Monma. >> Yeah, but then he literally spelled it like mama. >> O m M A. >> Duck. I see. >> Who let that go though? Who's like >> my dad? [laughter] >> It's ████ nuts. >> Yeah, dude. >> He's like, "All right." >> Yeah. >> Well, what was your dad's first name? >> Katsumasa or Richard. He He changed it to Richard. >> Richard Mama. >> Yeah. Richard Mama. Everyone was a mama.

24 >> That's pretty cool, man. >> And everyone's like, "Your name is mama." [laughter] And then I'm like, "F██████ dad, dude." But then that's the crazy thing is that no one was making fun of you. And >> I made fun of cuz >> I looked at So I had a school directory they gave me when I got to high school, freshman year. They gave me this directory book. It's got everybody's faces and phone numbers. Every student in the school. He was supposed to be there, but I got something happened and he wasn't there, but his face was still in the book. And I went, "Joe Mama [laughter] >> and then everyone's like, "Yeah, Joe Mama. He's really cool." Like, no one was laughing. >> Wow. >> It's like, why? This guy's name is Joe Mama. And no one made fun of it at all. And then he would show up to the school sometimes. Oh, yeah. Joe Mama's here. But nobody They said it like that, like it was like a tight ass nickname. >> Yeah. >> But Has anybody ever made fun of it? a

16 teacher did and I'm almost got in a fight with the [laughter] >> teacher at that school too. >> I was like, "You think it's ████ funny?" And I ████ chucked the book and I wanted to fight. I wanted to like >> Okay, you know what? [laughter] It's out of respect for violence. The The respect from the name is from violence. It wasn't because of the name. >> But no, no one actually like >> It's cuz you got along with everyone. They just didn't have a reason to make fun of it. Is >> that it or call me it? But no one would call it to my face. >> Yeah, because it's from violence. >> I don't know. I hated the I hated the name though. I know. >> You weren't there and that's the best time for people to make fun of you and they were just like, "Oh yeah, Joan was cool." >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> That's cool. >> But it's a funny name. I'm surprised more people didn't make fun of it. >> If you're throwing ████ at the teacher. >> Yeah. Like what the hell? >> I hated that name when I was a kid. I was like, "You ████ ████

06 [laughter] >> The teacher made fun of me. >> Fun of everybody. [laughter] >> The teacher ████ with me. That's crazy. >> Yeah. So, he I don't know what subject it was, but it was a white guy and he had shoulderlength hair and he looked like a surfer dude. And I thought he was going to be cool, but he ████ caught me smoking weed and he ratted me out cuz he looked I was like, "You're a poser hippie." Like, you look the part, but you're a you're a ████ [laughter] >> How many How many How annoying is it to every time have the teacher do roll call a new one and you going like, "F███." All right. You know what's crazy is a lot of teachers actually pronounced it right. >> Monma >> like on the first day. >> Whoa. >> Yeah. I was going to get ready to ████ correct them and then they're just like Joseph Mma. Like like that cuz they're like I think

56 they're like you it can't possibly be that. >> Those are smart teachers. >> Yeah. >> Wow. >> Like it's here. >> I would have called you J mom. >> J Moms. >> That's J Moms. [laughter] There's no way >> going by Barton. >> Hell no. [laughter] >> Such a proper Hell no. Next question, please. [laughter] >> Bartinuana. >> Well, my dad could have chose any regular name, but he had to make one up that like no Yeah. no one ever ████ ever heard of. >> Like a prestigious academy. >> Barton. >> Really? >> Welcome to Barton. >> Yeah, man. >> Bart really suits you though. >> Yeah, it completely suits you. It's a little spooky. Yeah. I was so happy like Bart the Simpsons came out when I was like kindergarten, first grade cuz everyone started calling me Bart or Bartman.

46 >> And I'm like, >> thank God. >> Hey, Bart man. >> To be named Bart in the '9s, that's the coolest possible outcome. >> Cool. And then I remember one of my favorite moments in my entire life. Um, one of the bigger kids, he was like a fifth grader and he goes he like uh because we're hanging out at his house and he was like, "What's your name?" And I was like, "Parton." And then he was like, "Barton, like Barton." You like Martin the Martin show. I was like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, YEAH, [laughter] >> IT'S BARTON." And yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [laughter] >> Martin theme song. >> Oh my god, dude. >> Oh, that guy is so cool. >> Damn. See, that's hard to make fun of. >> Yeah. But then after that, then people like, "Oh, Barton farting." [laughter] >> Barton. >> Yeah. You want to fight? Why can't be called Peter or something?

37 >> [laughter] >> Oh, Peter was the worst. >> Peter Peter Pucket Eater. Come on. Normal name. Any ████ normal name. >> What about yours? >> My My name's not My real name is not Ryan. That's my That's my middle name. Oh, >> okay. >> But people did do Did they call you that or? >> Yeah. Everyone called me that since I was like born basically. >> Oh, that's nice. >> Yeah. >> You never made fun of any Ryan's. It's kind of hard. >> It's a little bit hard. Yeah. >> It's kind of like a John. >> Yeah, it's such a like regular name. >> Oh, reg. But I was always sad I had a regular name. I always wanted something really unique >> like electric. >> Electric, [laughter] >> dude. That's like Yeah, that's kind of why I really want I looked forward to being a dancer cuz I'm like then I could finally earn a name doing something else. But it's basically just my name but a little longer. >> But you know how you know you're like in a group of white people. >> They call each other all by last name. >> Oh yeah.

27 >> Hey Gator. >> Hey. Hey Johnson. >> Yeah, cuz they all got the same They all got the same first name. [laughter] >> They all got the same. That's why they're like, "Which John are you talking about?" >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's how it is with Ryan's, too. >> Yeah. That's That's always how it is.
