So um this woman named Kurumi Otake she's 22-year-old employee of a variety store on the second floor of a mall in Kashima. And uh back in July there was a magnitude 7 earthquake that had hit the
0:50 area. And uh everyone evacuated the mall within an hour. And then um when she's outside the mall already safely evacuated with everybody they're all standing out there. She gets a uh call from her boss telling her to go back inside and take the I guess the register cash and move to the safe. And um so she she and another colleague rushed back into the mall and then a few minutes later a giant explosion occurs in the mall and uh both her uh both Kurumi and her friend were killed. And um the company's operator tried to fake a story at first saying that it was the employees' own decision to go back in to get their personal belongings. And then after being repeatedly questioned about it they ended up admitting that oh actually um yeah we did tell them to go get the cash first.
1:41 And then um they were basically like trying to say that no originally we just told them if hey if you're going back in go get the cash why don't you? But apparently it was the other way around and then the company reps uh ended up changing their story again. Apparently the mall had a procedure already detailing that if you evacuate the mall for any reason, you're not allowed to go back in. >> Makes sense. >> Yeah, they're like you can't go back in till the authorities come in and they deem it safe. Yeah, they have to clear it. But yeah, they went back in, they got blown up, and the company finally admitted that it was them that told them to do it. Seven people total died during that explosion.
