00 All right, guess what's happening out in the world of technology? This is gonna make Bart Quan very excited. He loves this kind of thing. Guess what? If you got a BMW 2020 or newer, you have to watch an ad when you start your car. >> No. >> ████ that. >> No way. >> ████ that. Oh my god. >> Wait. Before the car starts. When you start it. Yeah. >> Oh, >> how long is it? >> You don't have to wait for it to finish. It just won't. you. It just auto plays when you start. >> I'm buying only old cars. Only >> So here they're they have to see the uh the new brand new day trailer. >> That's what I mean. I ████ hate technology. What the hell is this ████ You're not even in control of your own car anymore. >> You can't turn it off. >> No, you got to finish it. >> Shut the hell up. >> Can you pay extra to have it not adree? >> If you could do that, that would piss me

50 off more cuz you're asking for more money. >> I don't know if you can um pay yet. Maybe maybe that's what they want people to eventually get >> cuz remember Mercedes was trying to roll out that whole subscription model like the more you pay the more things you unlock. >> Yes. Like heated seats. >> Yeah. Your car has a moonroof but if you want to use it you got to pay the 50 bucks a month >> to activate it. Yeah. >> Why would anyone want this car? >> What? What? Which which car? >> Is it a special one or >> No, it's like BMW's regular >> 2020 and and newer. So there's a lot of them that have it. >> Oh. >> Oh. So this isn't just a new car. They just put this in old cars, too. The movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day paid BMW to take over the display of every BMW made after 2020. >> So if you bought it during that time, they just can turn it on and do it for >> they just do it. >> Yeah. >> That was like remember when we bought

40 our iPhones or whatever, there's that one band. >> Oh yeah. You what was it? YouTube. >> YouTube. Yeah. It's like what the ████ is this? >> Everyone got pissed. >> But that's not like starting your car. >> Yeah. That's crazy. >> Slippery slope >> to make you watch the ad. That's bad. That's really bad. >> Hell no. >> You don't like it? >> I'm going to get only old cars. If the new cars keep going this way, I'm never going to get new. I probably already know. >> What if they changed it where it's like, "Okay, we're going to only show you ads that are targeted to your >> No. No ads. >> No. I don't like it even telling me what like the reason why I hated my Land Cruiser when I don't have a seat belts ████ yelling at me." Or if I'm like uh looking off to the side of the road, it's yelling at me. >> Those are safety. >> Listen, you should have your seatelt on. I'm going to I have it on, but don't yell at me. >> All right. What if you're driving and you look to the side and it shows you Spider-Man head [laughter] to to keep you looking forward.

30 >> That's actually better. >> No, I don't like any of I don't like when it's telling me what to do. I tell you what to do. >> We used to joke about this and it's like a reality. I used to joke about them showing you ads at the gas station. They do. Then that happened and then I was like, "Wo, that's crazy. Every pump has a TV and then now this is real." >> I don't mind the pump having a TV in playing cuz I'm like, I don't own this. the car. I own my car. What the ████ >> Agreed. >> Mhm. Damn, dude. >> And then this is the beginning. What else can they do? Like this is this is like a gateway. >> Yeah. >> What if you buy a dog and the dog's wearing a vest with the iPad and there's ████ you have to watch some ████ ████ homeward bound on the side of it before you can take it home. That's nah. >> The whole [laughter] movie. >> Yeah, dude. Yeah, they're going to I mean, if they could, they'd put ads everywhere cuz didn't um I forgot which company it was. cuz one of the tech companies I think we talked about before

21 uh they didn't they're not doing this but they found a patent filing for like some way to pump ads into I believe Dreams. >> Whoa. >> What the hell? >> Yeah, something like that. There was like some kind of a patent thing where like maybe they're never going to do it, but they were like racing to >> I remember I think uh Ford or F-150 >> bought the rights or whatever. They didn't even do it yet, but the outrage is the fact that they even saw that there was a way they could patent how to play ads in your car while you're driving or something like that. >> While you're driving. >> That's not safe. >> You could play whatever the ████ they want. >> I guess it's similar to radio commercials, but now you got to have a visual with it. >> Yeah, but I don't own the radio station. [laughter] This is crazy. You own the car. Like you own the mechanical piece of the car. >> Yeah. >> I would break I'd break I would break the screen. >> You would break the screen.

11 >> I would have to dismantle it. >> Is this enough to make you like dissuade you from buying a BMW after that? >> Yeah. >> I want to buy a BMW and drive it into the BMW lot. [laughter] >> It's a terroristic threat. The feeling. >> Oh, the feeling. >> The feeling of it. The feeling of it. >> Yeah. It says, Yeah, it says here the company recently pushed a Spider-Man promotion to eligible vehicles across more than 70 countries. That's freaking crazy, dude. >> I'm like, why isn't all the German cars doing this? Like Mercedes, BMW. I'm like, haven't you guys learned from World War II? [snorts] Stop controlling people. >> Yeah, they're flying too close to the sun. Cuz that's what they they BMW is one of the first companies to like make the payto-play like seat warmers. >> Really? >> Weren't they? I thought Oh, I don't know. But they do. They have that feature. >> They do have that feature. Yeah. Where you can't you have to like pay to have certain features in your car like we

01 were saying. >> I wonder if there's a hacker that can blackbox it cuz you know it's like it's not like the function isn't there. You just got to rewire the ████ electric. >> That's true. They do have those uh hacks where you could like turn your Tesla screen and and you could play movies, YouTube, all that. >> Yeah. So some of the functions on demand is what they call it for BMW. Highbeam assistant, remote engine start, adaptive suspension, welcome light, drive recorder, which I guess would be the dash cam. >> All of that's supposed to be free. You get an old Lexus is gonna have all that ████ Get a Lexus that's like 10 years old, they'll have all of that stuff. >> Oh yeah, dude. Or the or the Porsche that we were looking at before. >> It feels like we're we're horse riders and then the automobiles coming and you're like, I can't trust that thing that doesn't even have how do you know it's where it's going to go, you know? Like and then and then that's kind of how I feel like where I trust my 1980s

54 >> truck to like I know what it's going to do >> and then you're like I don't know what I don't want the government turning off my car >> you know >> is there a chance for them to be liable if example in the case of an emergency if I'm about to have a baby or if I need have to drive someone to the hospital but I have to freaking sit here I can't start my car cuz I have sit here and watch this ad. >> It won't block you from starting your car. It's starting. It's what activates the ad and then the ad will just play. >> So, there's essentially something playing on the screen like a movie like some >> So, maybe you can't use your m your map or something like that. >> Yeah. What if you need to navigate to a a hospital right now? >> Yeah, that's I feel like there could be liability issues. >> There could be. Or what if you need to secretly drive away from bad guys and then the ad starts playing and then you get caught and >> because it's all loud.

44 >> Yeah. It's like, well, I'm gonna sue you for getting me kidnapped. >> But then also, like, as a driver, you shouldn't be able to see something. Those things, you can't even touch buttons while you're driving. At least on mine, you have to be at a stop, right? >> So, you have your brake has to be on. So, for them to Okay, this uh where it's actually playing something visual, that's distracting for a driver. >> Yeah, >> that shouldn't be legal. It shouldn't be, but maybe it's one of those things where Well, if you look at your contract there when you purchase the car, we're a little small print right here. >> I'm surprised everyone's not burning their BMWs. >> Yep. Too much tech. I don't like it. >> Do you guys sometimes think that America says like they're all about the freedom and all that, but then like they really don't push back that hard. M >> like when I saw how French people

34 protest like all their farmers got cow ████ and just drove it into the government buildings and and like and tax buildings and dumped ████ I was like, "Oh, that's crazy." >> Yeah. Well, I guess like it's it's one of those things that probably loses its power after you've done it a few times. >> You do it like every week. >> Yeah, that's true. They protest all the time. It actually says here that the activation. So, you get a notification banner on your uh dash that says, "Surprise, Spider-Man just dropped into your BMW." And there's some kind of a popup. If you tap it, then it'll play a 19-second animation showing the Spider-Man uh promo, but apparently you don't have to tap it. >> Okay. So, it's like a skip. >> Yeah. It requires a tap or manual selection by the driver to launch the full experience. So, I'm sure they give

25 you a little something. >> Okay. >> That's still so annoying. >> It's still too invasive. >> I think it's the more invasive it gets, I think that's why there's this whole like, you know, homesteading movement where they're like, I don't even want to be plugged into the city's water. I want a well and I'm going to have solar panels and a battery. Cuz it's like as you're getting controlled in one way, they're like, dude, how do I ████ leave this ████ grid and I can have some privacy [snorts] for once? On a flip side though, if the algorithm can dial you in so good because they're watching you through the phone, watching you through life, everything, and they can already predict before you predict, like they'll just be like, "Hey, you probably left your keys or something over there." And you're like, "No, shut up, dude." And then you're like, "Oh, bro, you're right. You're right." And then you like like what if they could think like things like that? You're probably going to be hungry in like 15

15 minutes. Check out this ad. And then it's like, did you know that Bojangles just opened up down your street? [laughter] And you're like, I haven't had Bojangles in a minute. >> Why do you need your car to do that? Your phone already does that. >> No, but then like, isn't it nice if AI and like the algorithm can just start doing it for you? >> I think it I think it wants to. I think it's asking you to feed it. It's asking you to feed it enough so it can do that, but the side effect is it's going to do a whole lot of other things you don't want. >> Yeah. That's what's the scary part cuz they already have it. Like those smart homes, they have it where they track where how you walk or whatever through your house. So like now instead of they know where your route is, instead of you even have to turn on the switch, it'll turn on the lights of where you're going to go. Turn off the lights. That's too scary. >> Yeah. But what if But what if we're all talking about like I don't know like oh we need a new um I don't know, new plant for the backyard or whatever and you

05 open up Instagram. Why is all the ads plants? I always see that. >> Yeah, that's happening a lot. >> You don't like that? That's not convenient for you. [laughter] >> No. Nor my wallet. >> Cuz I'm like, who's what else are they listening to? >> Well, see, it's like kind of like this, right? Like for a while, I was so I changed my mind like a few times on this ████ already. But like in the beginning, I was like, oh, I kind of love having targeting ads. I like that when I'm browsing, it'll show me on the side some really cool work wear overalls that I was thinking of getting. I love that. But then I click on it, I buy it, I get scammed. So, it's like it's the right ad. It's the wrong person representing it. But there's there's no vetting for that. The the company doesn't care if you get ripped off. They they know how to get your click. And that's where I was like, "Okay, I changed my mind

55 again. This sucks." >> I would rather have a no ad where it goes, "Hey, don't buy s███." [laughter] And I'm like, "Yeah, you're right. You're right. You're right. You're right. Right. >> Anti- ads." >> Yeah. Anti- ad. Don't buy ████ Save your money. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's true. It's true. It's true. [laughter] Think of the progression from like Instagram or our phones, right? Think of what it was like just five, seven years ago and think of where we're at now. So, think of where this could end up in 5 to seven years. >> Oh my god. >> It's not going to stay here. >> Well, it already So, by the way, >> when the commercial's playing, it syncs the interior lights with the ad. >> So, it's taking control of the functionality of your car. You know what I need? I need correction. >> That's what I actually need. So, you know, when you're under like Instagram

45 explore page, >> like let's say it's a regular healthy explore page. It's all your interests, right? >> And then like a couple titties popping through the corner >> and then I get that all the time. I don't even follow any porn. >> Get you get a couple titties popping in through the corner and then and then one of they catch you on a bad day. So, you you you click on it and then you're Oh, why am I looking at titties? I got to put it away. The next time you go on the explore page, 74 titties pop up, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> What what I need is if I click on the ████ titties, the next time it goes, why you looking at titties? I know you've been looking titties. I'm a ████ You're right. So it could steer me back on the right path. I don't even get that. I'm just scrolling and it's like a dog and then it's like extreme cleanup and then there's a girl bent over on a thong and I'm like

36 >> on [laughter] a thong. >> In a thong. I think the algo knows it's a guy, so no matter how how much you scrub it, it's going to send it to you. It's like, what if I'm just scrolling and all of a sudden they're like, someone stand there like, "You ████ pervert." And I'm like, "I don't even follow this girl." Like >> it's like I'm just scrolling and suggest all of a sudden this girl is doing a podcast with her legs spread the whole time. And I'm like, >> it reads your mind, Joe. >> Well, >> that's what's in your brain >> and your registration. What'll help you out is if you change your gender on your sign up. >> So, if it's a girl, it's a throbbing boner. [laughter] >> You said You said you didn't want to see girls no more. >> He's just giving you solution. [laughter] >> I need correction. It's easier to resist clicking a boner than it is a set of tits. >> Unless you change it to female and it thinks you're a lesbian.

26 >> Oh, [laughter] yeah. >> Then it doesn't fix it. >> You didn't change your profile pick from your long hair one. [laughter] If I saw a big ████ I'd probably click on it, too, though. I'd be like, "Oh ████ what the hell? That thing's huge. [laughter] This must be some kind of error. Hold on." >> And now his whole algorithm's dick. [laughter] >> And now when there's a sale, it's all dildos and stuff. Like, what? It has nothing to do with me.
