00 But I think culturally though, it's like pretty mainstream to be gay now. Gay is the new black, bro. Like I look at Ben Shapiro and I'm like, that fool gay, dude. >> Yeah. >> [laughter] >> Well, the way the way Democrats campaign lately, I swear all of them are gay, dude. >> [laughter] >> That's true, dude. You think the whole party's gay? >> Yeah, you'd think. Welcome back to another episode of Careful Boys. We got Chris Sosa with us. Christina Sosa. >> [applause] >> Come on. Hey, you know that there's a coalition of Christian conservative organizations and leaders joining a new campaign seeking to mobilize churches to push for the overturning of the 2015 US Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.
50 What? >> thanks for putting it in your own words. >> So, what the ████ So, so triple C, is it called triple C or quadruple C? Cuz you said C C C C C C C is trying to say, "Yo, you gay guys, stop holding hands." >> They're basically trying to bring the religious element into it to overturn what became a federal law in America in 2015. That was a landmark, you know, decision by the Supreme Court to make it federally okay that you could have same-sex marriage everywhere. That now >> Is the Is the idea behind this that churches feel they are forced to um perform gay weddings? >> Like the bake bake a cake >> The bake a cake ████ thing? Ooh, I'm not sure about that. I I was just assuming that uh it made the most sense to bring the churches all into one jar giant coalition to fight against it just from a religious point of view of like that's
41 how it's always been on the conservative end. Got it. What's the legal point of view? Is it asset and like tax benefit stuff? Well, the tax benefit stuff is is because it's supposed to you encourage it, so then you build a family and it's better for the economy. But then like that's that's my take on it. But then, like when you technically get married, like let's say religion out of the way, um is the the legal stuff is it so that now you're you're you're kind of filing as one and then you can start signing for each other's ████ and then like, you know, I don't know. I don't really know the >> the that there's legal elements that include that. For example, though, like um like who who's benefit are you speaking towards? Like like why the government wants people to get married legally or are you talking about why people want >> a marriage is just combining like forces, right? You're building a company
33 with this partner, right? So so then, like That don't change whether you're gay or not. It's like the churches are tired of being like the the churches tired of being like well well technically, isn't it you still sin, but you but then you know They they want to take a hard stance. Yeah, yeah, they want to They don't want to see two dudes kissing on more. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, they So the church's stance is a moral one. It's more like it's against the religion or whatever it is, right? But then, I'm This is what I'm confused about cuz like what's the ben- like government-wise, legally-wise, like what's the benefit? Cuz if you're two if you're just like popping out kids together and you don't need the ceremony, you don't need the paperwork, yeah, I don't know why the government would okay it or why would they need it. I guess that's kind of like Well, I mean, the government's technically not getting their hand involved in whether it's okay or not, right? Um the Supreme
23 Court had overturned uh or no, I had had had ruled on Obergefell Obergefell? >> Obergefell. >> Obergefell versus Hodges. Yeah, in 2015 uh to protect same-sex marriage, but like uh right now it's just like one party, if you will, is trying to gather the churches to in a coalition. >> that's a like a pretty smart move in terms of I'm sure there's a lot of individual churches that they don't want to have to say they feel a certain way, but they'd rather say, "Ah, the coalition's making us kind of Exactly. >> what I mean? Like that way they don't have to fight their own battles. >> But the Obergefell decision's been in place for like what, 10 years or something like that? >> Yeah, yeah, 2015, yeah. >> So, it's over, man. You guys lost so hard. Like like culturally this has been decided as well. Like I think the idea is to turn it back over to the states.
13 The power of like whether So, they're doing the Roe v. Wade thing? >> Isn't it always at the state though? Like I thought state law overrides federal law. >> cuz cuz the Supreme Court decision made it legal in all 50 states. >> Yeah. It made it so that the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution protects same-sex marriage on a federal level. >> And and that's what the I remember conservatives at the time were arguing that they didn't get to do it the right way is what they were saying, which is every state would ratify same-sex marriage or not or not. Yeah. So, because the Supreme Court stepped in, they basically cut the line and made it apply to every state. I think that that was the right thing to do because all these states were not going to do this quickly. Like you would have had to have I mean the the then then the conservatives would say, "Well, gay people can move to a a state that has the right Which is
06 the the abortion conversation, yeah. The current one at least. Damn, man. I don't know. When did I don't even know when they separated church and state, but I'm like, "Y'all shouldn't have never separated if you wanted it culturally one way." ████ we fought a war for that though. Well, I mean for the for the idealisms of the land of freedom though, right? Like it's meant to pertain to like every But but the argument there is that it was always a Christian nation. It was just different kinds of Protestantism. So, then they they they're saying that the founding fathers didn't have this concept of, "Oh, there's a Hindu person and a Muslim person and an atheist." So, they're just like freedom of religion meant within the confines of Protestant It meant within the Jesus room. >> Yeah, it's still Yeah, yeah, yeah. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, it was still one nation under God. >> Uh-huh, exactly, exactly. So, I think
56 like if you follow the conservative thought, they're they're saying like the founding fathers they didn't have this concept of oh, we could live amongst Hindus. You know? So, it's >> That's ████ wack. That's like when your girl tells you, "We can eat anything you want. Anything you want that you still like." Cuz the minute I named dim sum, you're like, "What the Why would you name that?" I'm like, "Cuz you said anything I want." But it's not in there It's It's not in the rule of any ████ George Washington ass ████ They're always doing They're always even with the the Second Amendment. They're always like, "Well, the founding fathers didn't know that fully automatic weapons would be You know, like there's They wish they did. You can say that about everything, you know? They didn't have that back They would have loved it, though. >> [laughter] >> They're like, "Only muskets. Only muskets." Yeah. Your girl be like, "I'm down for a threesome, but not her. And I got to choose her and it has to be this and it has to And you can't be there. And you can't be there. Yeah, you're
46 like What the hell? >> even want it no more. You can't be there, but your best friend can. Yeah, yeah, yeah. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, bro. Freedom of religion, but not that one. >> Not that one. But we all do that, right? Where we go oh, yeah, like I like that amendment, but but not that one. Yeah, [laughter] totally, yeah. Yeah, bro. Well, this one's convenient for me. Mhm. >> But I think culturally, though, it's like pretty mainstream to be gay now to where like [laughter] Gay is the new black, bro. Yeah, but It's the new black. But I mean, like did you ever think that gays would be even welcomed in the conservative side? Cuz they're like openly gay, you could be a gay conservative, and then like um you know, no one's like It's not like when we grew up where it's like, "Gay! You can't be a Republican and gay." >> I would I would like >> even be Democrat and gay. I'm still
37 trying to learn the gay term cuz it's never been about being homosexual. Like I look [snorts] at Ben Shapiro and I'm like that fool gay, dude. >> Yeah. >> [laughter] >> But yeah, I know he ain't like gay in the regular >> Technically gay. Yeah, but he's still gay to me. I wish there was a way I know there's probably there's probably no way to do this, but wouldn't it be interesting to see a United States how they would really treat gay people if no one needed their votes. Mhm, I would love to see how people really felt. But isn't their population pretty low? >> It's low. >> want to know like I want to know what what do you really think because if if if you need votes, you never know how people actually feel. >> Or immigrants, too. Yeah. You don't really need their votes. >> Democrats campaign lately, I swear all of them are gay, dude. >> [laughter] >> That's true, dude. You think the whole party's gay? >> Yeah, you'd think. You know what's funny? Remember the
27 thing with the the Minnesota governor whatever when he's dancing with the smiling flags? That's not even a gay thing, but everyone's like that's so gay. >> [laughter] >> That's our generation, dude. Yeah. But now you got gays going like, well, we just want LG. We don't want TBQ. It's like >> kind of messed up on their end, yeah. I feel like I think they're letting I think I think saying that's gay is actually making a comeback, which is cool. It It's back. It's back. It's back, right? I would even say ████ too. The kids are based. I want the F word to come back. Oh. Should we all say it at once? We can make it happen. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Well, when you're raised around like everybody getting called racist, everybody getting called sexist, homophobe, everything, then ever eventually people get numb to it. >> Cuz it's it's a fact, yeah, completely. But yeah, like Bro, kids now
18 kids now are like worse than we were in the '90s, for sure. Yeah, they're like >> Yeah. All of it's back. It's like It's like Xbox Live again. Xbox Live is back. Like the streamers? Yeah. They say crap. They don't even care, man. >> Everything feels so Black Mirror and like ironic though, right? It's like the people calling you out for racism are like super racist. Yeah. You know, it's like the like putting race in everything all the time. It's like the really weirdest thing when you like sit back and try to watch it. It's like the the way that maybe um maybe the way that trans is an issue today is like how like gay was an issue like 10 years ago. So, it's like on to the next one now gay seems so normalized that you're just like no no gay's fine, but like now there's a conversation about like you know making sure that trans are represented and seen in a certain way and it's like
08 okay, what's 10 years from now? What are what are we focusing on then? >> definitely is very clear to me though because how I remembered growing up is that gay people just wanted to be left alone. They just didn't want you to ████ with them. And they were like let us do what you guys do and be left alone. But then like when the trans stuff came in the difference was pretty clear that they were like no you have to change for me. Like you got >> Yeah, you have to use my pronoun. >> Yeah, you have to like do I'm a they, brother. And you have to adopt the way that I'm thinking. Instead of just being like let's all mind our own business and live happily ever after. That that's where I think the line shifted and then people were like oh ████ no, what the hell? Like the response was really negative generally. Yeah. They didn't they didn't want to fight that fight no more. And it but but it actually in a in a in a good way like in a in a peace way. Like you know what? Cool. Like cuz cuz yeah, let let them rock. You know
58 what I mean? Do your thing. You know what I mean? >> Yeah, cuz that's already how we felt. We're like yeah, of course do whatever you want. Do it. Yeah, but then it got a little bit kind of it was kind of encroaching on your own lifestyle and Got a little too fun. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> Got a little too interactive. But also like like even how things are getting back to like hardcore conservative or like is kind of like shifting that way too where it's like oh you're cool because now you're Christian or super religious or super Catholic because when we were growing up it was like everyone was kind of becoming more atheist and and being free and that was different, right? You're you're leaving the church. Mhm. But then now it's like everyone's swinging right back. >> Yeah. It's it's interesting. >> Christianity's like up, bro. >> Yeah. It's crazy.
49 >> They're all the whole, you know, make America great and the, you know, MAGA They're just They're trying to like work that department now. They're They're all trying to Every every like way that they can make it great again. Yeah. They're like now like now they got to do it for a religion. Now they got to do it for the You know what I mean? Like they're just trying to do that now. You're like, bro. They're like moving through the sectors. >> Exactly. Exactly. >> Dude, when I was like 15, if I was wearing a bracelet like that, you think You know what I'd be called, brother? Bro. Hard F, right? Hard F. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But it never meant that. It's like >> lowercase Now it's yeah, lowercase. >> You know what I say? >> South Park's definition is the best one. >> Yeah, they're not. Well, also like it doesn't look gay on you, but it would look hella gay on me. Uh You know what I mean? Like you and Anthony could pull that off. I just look like a flaming that on. >> [laughter] >> Can you bleep out flaming? Yeah, bleep out flaming. >> [laughter]
40 >> I think But we're the we're the generation though that stood up for gay rights, but also called our buddy who played the clarinet a straight >> [laughter] >> The clarinet? And we're like, I bet you like playing that clarinet, don't you, you little ████ boy? >> Yeah. That's why That's why I love I love how South Park explained it. That's the best. >> Like with the bikers? With the bikers. With the with the And they thought they were gay? With the guys on the Harleys making all that noise. We're like, that's gay. >> I've never felt more seen. Yeah. Like I was like, yes, that's it. >> we're not talking about gay people. We're talking about these guys. >> [laughter] >> That's so funny.
